Water for babies???

Pediatrician just told us at our 2 month check up to start giving her 2 oz of water a day in half ounce increments four times daily to break it up. But everything online says not to give babies water till 6 months! Now we're confused and concerned with our doctors advice. Please help! What have your pediatricians told you?

Look for a second opinion.

Do what you’re comfortable with. I wouldn’t give my baby water until 6 months, and I actually don’t think I started giving my son water to drink until he was almost a year old. Doctors don’t always know everything. Our pediatrician is super old, and has old school views and opinions. But some doctors don’t care to change their views even upon receiving further education during their career. If your gut says to hold off, then do it. You also don’t always have to take all the advice your pediatrician gives you.

My pediatrician also told us to give our son 1-2 onces water when he’s constipated.

Ummm that’s weird why would they tell you that ?

Avatar

Agreed! Even at 6 months I believe it’s supposed to be distilled water only, not tap

So weird! I’ve not gotten that advice. I’d definitely get another professional opinion before doing that.

I was told to put a half ounce of distilled water in her bottle to help her poop more often, but that was only once a day!!

Absolutely would not. Too high of a risk for the babies kidneys to not be able to flush it out properly! wouldn't even think of trying until at least 6 months minimum

So strange, def would seek out another opinion. They get plenty of hydration from breast milk/formula.

Mine told me at 4 months I had to sleep train her. Just ignore things like this. That’s what I did. Always get a second opinion if you have concerns but don’t give baby water.

No way. I’ve heard of first hand stories of baby’s drinking tap water and this age and let me just say it’s heartbreaking what could happen. Please report this doctor

What? My mom kept telling me and I asked the doc at his two month apt and they said no

Why was that your docs recommendation? Sounds..off

my pcp said that’s an option but that she still doesn’t recommend it that she would much rather recommend apple juice for costipation if he ever had some.
