Hi everyone
So i have induction booked for next week. A day before induction i see the diabetic midwife. She will offer me the sweep.
Btw im high risk pregnancy GD,OC(cholistasis).
Im just confused if i should just go ahead with induction and not have the sweep. Weather have the sweep before induction? If they offer you a sweep before induction ,do they delay induction if you have had sweep?
Anyone have experience of either?

I’m booked for an induction next Thursday and had my first sweep yesterday at 38 weeks and having another on Tuesday.
It’s entirely up to you to opt for the sweep but I personally wanted to try, it’ll either work or it won’t, maybe even get things going to make the induction process better that’s all I think.
They won’t delay your induction due to a sweep. I think they usually suggest it x

I go for my induction 2 weeks today, have an appointment with midwife on Tuesday and I’m hoping she will do a sweep to possibly help get things moving better for the induction

I had three sweeps before induction, neither worked but always worth giving them a go. Induction isn’t pleasant and sweeps are only uncomfortable in the moment. For me I wanted to try anything before being induced

thankyou thats made me help understand better. Im just in 2 minds about the sweep before induction. My induction method will be balloon method. Im thinking might get the sweep before to see if anything progresses and next day just go with induction.
Oh okay they wont delay thats what i was worried about and yh you are right they do offer it. Its just they offering a day before the induction.
All the best to you hope the sweeps work and you have safe delivery xxx

awww all the best with the labour and delivery. Hope you have safe and smooth delivery. Definately give it a try i think midwife usually offer the sweep. hopefully the sweep works for you and gets thing progressing 😊

aww oh no bless you😇thats what i was worried about if the sweep dont work i dont think i wanna get it done again. Ive heard about induction not being very pleasant . Cause of my conditions and high risk pregnancy they offered the induction.
Ive tried most natural methods to bring on labour nothings working😭😭😭
Ive heard sweeps are uncomfy and painful too. Hence im in 2 minds which one to do. Im 50/50 on trying it beforehand to see if it may work before induction date.
Just want a safe and healthy delivery. its my first time experiencing proper labour i didnt experience with my first it was emergency c section.
Hence im just confused which option to get i got till tuesday to decide if i want the sweep or not. Wednesday day of induction xxx

@Aleena I had a balloon induction with my boy. I'd gone in earlier in the day due to reduced movements and they offered me a sweep. Still went back in the evening to be induced 😊

heyyy how was your experience with the balloon? How quick did it get to active labour? Did balloon help with breaking waters? Sorry im asking a million questions lol just nervous and curious to know. Oh did the one sweep work or was induction that got it all moving? Xxx

@Aleena the midwife actually wasn't able to do the sweep because my cervix was too far back for her (unsure how as the midwife that inserted the balloon said it was fine). The balloon was alright for me, slightly uncomfortable and did cause some pain when I moved.
They will normally leave it 24 hours and take it out unless it falls out on its own, mine came out after about 17 hours and once the midwife did a cervical exam after I basically went straight into labour 😅
Was in early labour for about 9 hours before it was active labour, but did have my waters broken. Given the option to wait for them but I asked which would make things quicker and went with that option 🤣 still didn't actually give birth until almost 13 hours of active labour and needed help from forceps mainly due to how exhausted I was from lack of sleep for the last month xx

I wouldn’t say it was painful more just uncomfortable. It’s 50/50 if it works though. It works better if you’re already in slow Labour though or Labour I’ve heard. Natural methods I’m sure are myths I tried everything 😅 inductions have a higher chance of ending in c section

yh ive heard its quite uncomfy, yh your right its 50/50 if it works. Yh i havent really showed any signs eventhough im on the go and walking. Hahaa i think when it comes to labour everuthing 50/50 even natural remedies . I guess just gonna go with the flow and see how it goes. Oh really their is chance but a lot of people have been successful with induction and vaginal birth. But i guess you just never know what to expect. Thankyou xxx

I had my sweep on 29th August and I was induced 31st, induction worked really well and within 12 hours was ready to have my waters broken but my trust was having severe staffing issues so my waters weren’t broken until Sunday evening, little lady was then born on 4th September at 2:55am x

I had a sweep last Sunday and I have my induction this upcoming Monday. Personally I was glad I had a sweep because I was aware of how soft my cervix is and whether I was dilated. I had a soft cervix and 1cm dilated. Been having a lot more braxton hicks but apart from that I’ve been fine! I’m hoping I’ve dilated more when I go in on Monday

awww all the best with your induction for monday, hope it all goes well. I was worried about dialatiing and softening the cervix. One of the midwife i saw yesterday was saying to make it successful you need atleast 2 sweeps. But it is upto me after hearing your experience im thinking might try it if makes a differences xxx

oh that was pretty quick and im glad the induction worked out for you and congrats on your little bundle of joy. Oh yes understaff does take an effect too but im glad your little lady is here safely and you had safe delivery too xx
