Baby weight

So just had my 6 month old weighed and he’s 10.5kg (23lbs). At first i wasn’t overly concerned as he’s always been a big baby but my hv seems to be concerned and i just feel really deflated about it. I dont get what im expected to do. He’s having 40oz formula and one meal a day which i feel is reasonable. It feels like im expected to starve my child? I mean I cant exactly send him on a run😅 Any advice at all?

That’s quite chunky BUT if he’s always been big it may be his norm and when he starts to move etc he will level out!
What did your HV actually say?

She basically insinuated that i’m overfeeding him. Which i don’t feel i am and i don’t feel i can do anything differently. He’s been in the same routine for a while, he has 5x 8oz bottles of formula a day and since he turned 6m 2 weeks ago he’s had one meal. He was born weighing 8lbs 15oz and he’s followed the centile he’s on for a long time. It’s just since weaning he jumped up a tiny bit.

As long as he’s following his centile line then there shouldn’t be too much of a problem, it’s if he’s jumped up sone then that might be why HV was concerned? But as Amy said above once he’s on the move more it levels out especially if he’s like my girl who just does not stop! (She’s a 15m hurricane!) x

If he’s always followed his centile and this jump isn’t a massive amount then I’d ignore her!
I don’t think it sounds like you’re over feeding him BUT if you did want to you could maybe offer a smaller bottle around the time you offer food if that makes sense so instead of 5*8oz and a meal maybe 3* 8oz 2*6 and a meal In between the two smaller ones if that makes sense 🤣
But honestly he will slow down growth weight wise as he begins to move!

Mine weighs the same and he is breastfed only. Whilst he's starting to taste and try foods now, they aren't meals yet. So, I wouldn't put too much worry into it, if the baby is healthy, playing, pooping and this weight was gained consistently throughout the past months :)

He has followed it from being around a month old and he hasn’t jumped massively. My mum had also advised when he starts to move more that it would drop off abit more, atm he’s only sitting and rolling haha! He just loves his food x

Yeah definitely, he’s not obviously super active at the moment. I can try the 6oz but i just feel like what we’ve been doing has worked really well for us and i felt fine about it until she made a deal out of his jumping up a tiny bit. It was literally so minor and i thought with weaning it would of been a given anyway to put a little more weight on😂 He’s hitting all his milestones completely fine and he just seems content as he is. He’s sitting and rolling as he should be, babbling, smiling, laughing and just overall doing great x

My little boy is 7.5 months and 24lbs, my health visitor isn’t worried at all. She said he’s following the centile like he’s pretty much always been on. He’s not even that chunky he’s just a bigger baby, looks more like a 10/12 month old. I really wouldn’t worry, if your baby is healthy and hitting his milestones then I don’t think you should worry ☺️

Yeah he’s always followed his centile he’s only jumped up a tiny bit since having his food. He does eat what we give him and has some water with it. We literally just give him whatever we eat as finger foods😅

Yeah he’s doing great. He’s not that big either he’s just super tall, he also looks a lot older than what he is. Someone asked me ‘has he taken his first steps yet’ i was like ‘he’s 6 months old’ you should of seen the look on their face haha! X

Sounds exactly the same as my little boy! I wouldn’t worry, some babies are just bigger. My little brother was the same as a baby, he’s now 16 and 6ft 1. Just think we’ll have tall boys when they grow up x

It will be because of their guild lines, and you may find you'll be referred to a doctor, but it doesn't mean much its mostly about them covering their backs and baby getting checked.

I have the opposite issue. My LG is 18 months, 71cm tall and 8.53kg she's always been on her centile line, and I'm short, and dad isn't exactly tall. My health visitor said she wasn't worried, and she's out doing all the mile stones, but because of their guild lines, we now have a doctors appointment later this month to discuss her growth.
