Is this normal?

If it still looks the same after a course of antibiotics I’d go back

My baby had this around the same age and saw doctor and told was a granuloma where the tissue just over heals. Was told to put salt on it and the wash off with water for 3 days and it was gone. Worth double checking with the doctor first but looks the same to me.

I’m at the hospital waiting for one of the nurses to reassess. I’m just worried because it’s taking such a long time to heal :( thank you both

It’s called an umbilical granuloma perfectly normal you can use salt there are some nhs leaflets online about doing this or you can ask Dr to seal it with a silver nitrate stick some won’t do this first though unless you try the salt first.

As others have said it’s a granuloma. My daughter has one and I had to put salt on it twice a day and wash off after10 minutes x

It’ll dry up and close my little boys was similar just took longer as he had a strong cord

my boy had the same. Not as big as I only need to do it once.

My little girl is 4weeks on monday she hers is still abit scapped but midwife said it's fine and it doesn't look infected ect my little one had a thick cord had to cut it twice so maybe that's why it's taking longer to heal if you get me xx

they’ve put silver nitrate on it now. Did you bath your baby as normal or did you wait for it to fall off first?

My baby had this its a granuloma, doctor gave us some creme and healed right up- worth making an appointment 😊

we had the same issue around that age. They put silver nitrate on it when we brought it up /no antibiotics at all/, it helped, but did not heal fully still, so about a week later they asked us to reapply the silver nitrate and it finally closed. They said no immersing in water and to only do sponge baths until it healed to prevent infection.

I believe they also said make sure not to put diaper over it so that it can breathe. I think I didn’t fully bathe him for like 2 weeks around that time /only his diaper area/. It will be fine ❤️🙏🏻.
