Mom guilt

Just had my gallbladder removed yesterday and I’m feeling all the mom guilt. My doctor said I’d be fine to pick up my baby (7mo and 17 lbs), that was a lie. I can’t even stand up on my own without pain, let alone pick up my baby. Has anyone had a similar surgery? How long did it take you to feel comfortable picking up baby again? 😓

Sorry mama, that takes a lot out of you. My mom (at the time around 53) got hers taken out. Granted we’re too big for her to pick now lol.. but just on her recovery, she took about 2-3 weeks to heal. Take the rest you need, your mom guilt is cuz you’re so very used to being there for your little one on demand that this is now the time to be there for YOU!!
Do it for you now, so you can be there for him when you’re fully healed & ready!! 🤍

I had my gallbladder removed when my daughter was a month and a half. Luckily I was able to pick her up since she was smaller. I'd say after a week I wasn't in to much pain. There were times if I over did it that I'd be hurting.

Hope you feel better soon! ❤️

Oh man, I had mine removed before I had kids, but I remember feeling bloated and in pain for a couple of weeks. It was then when I also discovered we use our ab muscles when we drive 😬. Try to give the baby hugs while you’re both on the ground if that feels better. That’s what I’m trying to do now with my first son after giving birth to his baby brother this week. Also, have people pick them up for you and hold if you can.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon!

Thank you! I’m definitely trying to listen to my body. She hangs out in her playpen a lot, so I can’t be in there with her, but I’m trying to be close to her when I can ❤️

thank you! I’ve been trying to rest as much as I can. It’s certainly been tough already with my husband having to do everything I normally do, plus care for me as well, I feel awful about that. Thankfully he’s taking it all like a champ.

thank you! I’m hoping if I take it super easy that a week is all I’ll need 😅 Does coughing/ sneezing get any easier? I thought holding a pillow would help, but it’s not done much for me.

Thank you! So far no bloating, which is nice, I was actually super bloated for weeks before I had it removed. I’m super nervous about driving, but I have to go back to work on Tuesday 😣 Any advice for the driving?
I’ll definitely try hugs on the ground. I tried holding her earlier today with her back on my chest/belly, but she was kicking her legs and her bum bounced against the incisions 😓

Thank you! I’m definitely trying to take it easy. I just feel bad when she’s crying and my husband is busy trying to do things like cook or clean and I can’t help 😣

I had my gallbladder removed when my daughter was 8 weeks old and although I could pick her up it was uncomfortable and I felt guilty that I couldn't do everything, just simple things like giving her a bath. After about a week it was easier and I would say after 2 weeks I was back to normal.

Wishing you a speedy recovery x

it did for me. I would say the pain prior to having my gallbladder out was much worse than recovery. Thankfully this next time around I won't have that issue. Gallbladder issues are very common during pregnancy. I had gallstones my entire pregnancy but just related it to being pregnant.
