How do you make your bottles

Currently combi feeding- with the formula a prescription formula that doesn't have a ready made version nor can it be made ahead 🫣

Interested to hear your ideas on timesaving without using a prep machine. We have feeding issues so don't have the time to be sitting a bottle in a bucket of cold water to cool down - there has got to be a quick and safe way to do it.

Also how to do this when out and about and not in a cafe/restaurant. We are avoiding going out unless for a short period right after a feed (so LO doesn't have to be fed) at the moment.

A suggestion I’ve used recently

Pour fresh boiling water into one bottle, put the powder into another bottle, then when you’re out ask for some boiling water to add to the powder (2 ounces)

Top up with the cooled boiled water

I use this when on the go! It’s amazing!

The rapidcool is so good - I use the hotshot method with it
-pour hot water in bottle to the oz you need
-Pour most of the water into rapidcool leaving about an oz or two in the bottle
-rapidcool starts to cool down the water whilst I add milk powder to bottle and mix
-once water is cooled, pour into bottle and mix it
Takes me about 3-4 mins to make a bottle that way, and rapidcool doesn’t need to be sterilised after each use the way it would with the screenshot above (if you put the milk into it)

I don't use a prep machine as I just don't like them . They are germ factory's in my opinion. I have a 1 cup kettle which I just boil add 1.5 of boiled water add 4 scoops. Swirl it then add 2.5ml of cold distilled water. I just make it how it says on the tin really. But I kill the bacteria off in the milk first. Xx

i have a jug of cooled boiled water for the day which i leave on the. once bottles are sterile, i fill them with the cooled boiled water to the oz/ml amount. they remain on the side until bottle time, them we add the powder, bottle and the bottle is ready. saves so much time for us. also, with our first we warmed milk but then he would not drink milk unless it was warmed making some trips out very difficult. this time round with our little girl milk is room temp, as the cooled boiled water is stored at room temp. she has not issues drinking it at this temp and life is all round easier

@Hayleigh thanks. Hoping for ideas that cover not needing to get water from somewhere as that still limits going out to ensuring we are near a cafe or something. X

@Sam sorry if I'm misunderstanding. Are you saying you add the powder to the cooled water? Isn't the powder supposed to be in over 70 degree water as that's the temp to ensure bacteria is killed?

Avatar

take a flask/thermos with hot water, if you can’t make it up beforehand then that’s the only way you’re going to be able to do it

I have a bottle of boiled water in the fridge and then when making a bottle do a hot shot of boiling water from the kettle then use the fridge water to top and bring it to a drinkable temp x

Avatar

@April thanks. What do you do when out and about- without relying on retailer's to provide boiled water?

Avatar

yes che I am sure the formula power needs to be added to hot boiled water at 70degrees not less as it would defeat the purpose of killing any bacteria in the powder

you could still use cooled boiled water if you added a little hotshot of boiled water before and mixed the powder to dissolve kill any bacteria.. you just add a little no need to add the full oz then top it up with boiled cool water x

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

6 month old autistism

My 6 month old makes no eye contact with me and doesn’t respond when I call him. Can this just be a phase or personality trait as apposed to autism

Baby with chronic congestion

Hi everyone! My 1 year has been a congested baby since birth almost. She breathes through her mouth so often that it wakes her up multiple times at night and she cries and screams and then struggles to go back to sleep. She wakes up every 1-3 hours and sometimes can’t go back to sleep for 2-3 hours!!! Piriton is the only thing that seems to help her sleep mostly through the night but I can’t keep giving her that!!
Does anyone have tips as to have I can do or give her? Has anyone experienced? I have no idea when I’ll get an ENT appointment and I have no idea what he can give a 13 mo :( we are desperate for sleep so any tips are welcome!! We have tried steam inhalation, saline drops, vapour rubs and everything off the counter basically!

Combi feeding advice

Has anyone gone from EBF to combi feeding? Currently do one bottle of EBM per night and they one half formula half breast milk mixed in the day. The other times she still feeds on me. Ideally I want to feed all day via bottle and all night with breast. She’s 7 weeks and takes a bottle well, how long should I leave it before adding another bottle to her daily routine?
