Maternity Leave

So I’m a server at a sports bar style restaurant… each of my shifts is around 7 hours 30 minutes. I’m currently 34 w 3 days pregnant. Besides just being exhausted in general, typically every shift I end up uncomfortable with cramping or something of that nature. I do still need money. Our Maternity leave process is extra & they don’t even send the paperwork to your doctor until 30 days before your EDD. (11/15/23) Do y’all think my doctor could possibly put me on “light duty” where I can work maybe 5 hours a day instead of 7? Has anyone ever done anything like that?

You can get a medical note but best to speak to your workplace if they refuse then advise you to speak to your doctor

I'm sure your dr would be more than willing to write you a note for that!

I'm pretty sure they have to accommodate reasonable requests for pregnant people, so I would definitely give it a shot!

i did something exactly like this . im 34 weeks as well and when i was around 20 weeks i got a note from doctor stating i needed to be put on light duty and/or have shorter shifts or more breaks . i think it depends on where you work but where i worked they gave me a form for my doctor to fill out . after that i had the option of having extra breaks or a shorter shift . i decided on the shorter shift .

It is a federal law now that they have to give reasonable abomination to pregnant and nursing women as long as it doesn't cause a hardship on the company. They could move you to a hostest or shorten your shift
