Injections

Has anyone ever been put on aspirin and enoxaparin (blood thining injections) at the same time to prevent blood clots? Just seems like a lot to be on 2 medications that thin your blood

I’ve been taking 40mg enoxaparin and 75mg aspirin from the very beginning of my pregnancy, mine is due to recurrent miscarriages but as long as it’s prescribed and advised by a medical professional for a reason there’s no issue x

I’ve been on both since the beginning of my pregnancy but my dr told me to stop taking the aspirin as I had spotting two weekends in a row. He said once everything settles down I may be put back on it.

Some people are ok taking both, but for some like me it may be too much.

I’ve had 4 separate episodes of bleeding/spotting during my pregnancy and have been told to continue with my medication, they said they’d only stop it if the bleeds were very heavy and filling pads! Crazy how different the advice is x

Yes I am on clexane as I have a clotting disorder have had to inject daily for all this and my last two pregnancies, twice a day in my first which is when the clot formed. My clotting factors are tested regularly and the dose adjusted accordingly. But this time and only this time I have been advised to take asprin too. Not sure if it is because of my age or because my daughter (3rd pregnancy) was pre-term its weird but I guess I'll do it. I also turned up at the pharmacy to collect my blood thinners, sharps box and folic acid to find I've also been prescribed iron. I am guessing I had a blood test come back but no-one told me. I will literally be rattling by the end.

honestly it’s so confusing sometimes! Also starting or coming off medication can be so anxiety inducing!

it’s great that you have regular checks, I think that’s probably the best thing. I’ll ask my doctor on my next visit if we need to align my dose to test results.

Can I ask you how are you managing the birth plan and the enoxaparin injections? I am quite worried about it and giving birth / epidural and stopping blood injection on time. + I am quite petite and struggling in inject on tummy as I am getting bigger with the baby. Anyone tried the thy and where exactly? Thanks

I was told that as I’d likely be having a planned c-section, they will tell me when to stop my injections so that I’ll be ready for the epidural etc. it it turns out needing to be an emergency c-section and my last does was within 24hours (I can’t remember the exact timings) then I’ll have to be put to sleep and won’t have the option of being awake.

Also I was told to start injecting my upper thigh, not my tummy as it’s huge now (twins) and no more space.

thank you! That makes sense Congratulations for your twins btw! Do you do your injection in the morning or evening? Was told to do them in the evening but keen to have them done in the morning so it is out of the way and tummy is more tender. Re your upper thy - May I ask you to share a picture or show exactly where? I am petite and so scared to touch a muscle. Can you grab enough skin? Thanks so much X
