Travelling to Mexico with 5 month old!

Hi, I’m after some advice!! I’m travelling to Mexico in January with my 5 month old baby. She is formula fed and I’m driving myself insane deciding on how to make up her bottles! I’m reading that I shouldn’t trust the tap water, even when boiled and I know that babies can’t have bottled water due to the sodium levels. Has anyone travelled to Mexico or somewhere similar with a formula fed baby and can give me some advice?!

I have always used bottled water when going abroad.

Hello! I lived in Mexico for a spell. Definitely use bottled water, but I’m confident there’s such a thing as ‘baby water’.

I actually didn’t know regular bottled water was an issue for babies, but I remember specifically being in shops which offered bottled water for babies, even some little shops - although I imagine in larger supermarkets you’d have more luck

thank you so much! We are staying in Playa Mujeres. Would it be easy to locate a shop from this hotel which sells it? I sent the hotel a message via their instagram account but they didn’t seem to be overly helpful, they just told me the name of the bottled water they provide in the hotel to all guests!

Yes I think you’ll be fine :) Is it on Isla Mujeres?

Basically it’s a popular beach destination, so you’ll be a short taxi ride from a major supermarket I’d expect, or there are little convenience stores in town (Oxxo and Extra are common ones, like a Spar, etc.)

If it were me and was worried, after you land see if you can grab a taxi to the nearest big supermarket and stock up, so you can take it to your final destination with you. Even if you run out, you’ll then have something to point to, in terms of looking for more.

You should do whatever you feel comfortable with, but I’m guessing a lot of local women would use regular bottled water for their little ones if that’s any comfort 🙂

no it’s still mainland, just north of Cancun, opposite Isle Mujeres.

Thanks so much. I will take a few of the ready made bottles and then ask our transfer driver to stop on the way! We have a private transfer so I can’t see that being a problem 🤞🏼

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, in Farmacia Guadalajara you can find a gallon of Gerber baby water but anyway there are a lot of sodium free bottles such as e pura or nestle. You just have to look at the bottle and see "sin sodio". Epura for example sells carboys.

it’s nice to hear I’m not the only crazy one going so far with a little one! I’m so nervous for some reason!! Will you be checking the sodium levels etc in the bottled water? I will also take my own kettle!

I've been to Mexico, you can't use tap even if boiled. or ice.

how old was your little one when you went? How did you find it?

we just came back and used the bonafont water in a travel
Kettle for feeding which the hotel was giving it’s from the brand Danone and has low levels of sodium etc. I washed bottles in taps water and sterlised with tap water and a Milton tablet which worked well
