Medication withdrawal

When I was pregnant with my first baby (10 months ago) I stopped my lexapro 10mg cold Turkey at 4 weeks pregnant. I immediately had nausea and gagging all day everyday, headaches, dizziness. It lasted for months and I just thought it was from pregnancy.

Now I am pregnant with my second baby and when I found out at 4 weeks and a few days, I stopped my lexapro 20mg cold Turkey. Within 24 hours I had all the same symptoms as the first time. Someone I work with suggested it may be from medication withdrawal and not necessarily pregnancy. I txt my doctor and they told me to take half a dose every evening to try and wean off the lexapro instead of stopping it cold Turkey.

I stared to do this and immediately the symptoms subsided. I still had a headache everyday and nausea but it was very tolerable.

I took the half dose every evening for one week and now I am doing a quarter dose every day (today is my first day of the quarter dose.) immediately the symptoms came back.

Has anyone had to wean off lexapro before and if so how did you do it and how long did these symptoms last for?

Thank you for sharing the importance of taking to doctors about this! Some psychological medication is very dangerous to stop cold turkey! Im so glad weaning helped you and that you took the steps needed to stay safe

Please everyone talk to your doctor about how to safely wean off of any psych-related meds!

Thank you for sharing, I’m 6w and I’m on Lexapro too. I’m already having nausea and dizziness, and I’m kinda of afraid of the withdrawals from the medication

my doctors refuse to meet with me about it for several more weeks, and weaning isn’t helping me I don’t think you read my post in the entirety, I have been having terrible withdrawal symptoms

Avatar

what dose are you on and did your doctor tell you to wean? The withdrawal symptoms are no joke I am so miserable

I’m only on 10mg but I do take other medications. My doctor gave me a hard time about confirming my pregnancy but I do have an appointment this Monday

My doctor told me it was safe to take Lexapro during my first pregnancy and I took 20mg everyday for my whole pregnancy. I’ve never weaned off it though I have only ever missed a day or two and it only causes me to start feeling depressed again I don’t get any of those symptoms

Maybe it’s a combination of both the withdrawal and the pregnancy. Have you ever missed a day or two before being pregnant and experienced those withdrawal symptoms?

Did your doctor suggest you wean off? I’m on lexapro and my doctors have recommended I stay on. Withdrawal symptoms are insane though. I used to take Zoloft and suffered from withdrawal for a year before going on lexapro

I haven’t spoken to my doctor yet, but I remember he hinted in the beginning of our sessions that I might have to wean off or switch to another medication if I ever got pregnant again

I possibly misinterpreted your post. You mentioned that your bad side effects happened when you went cold turkey, but when you started weaning they subsided? But then when you went to a quarter they came back?

Ending any medication that you’ve been on a long time can have bad side effects - I’m sorry you’ve been experiencing them. They don’t last forever which is good. But pregnancy symptoms are nausea, headaches, and sometimes lightheaded ness, sometimes severe for some! It’s possible you’re having pregnancy symptoms at the same time. I have nausea and dizziness and I’m almost 6 weeks

Maybe they can switch you to Zoloft? My doctor said it was safe for me to continue to take while pregnant. I also quit cold turkey and was so irritable I called and they said it was safe to keep taking it.

This is a bit strange.. but hear me out

I am 36 weeks and 4 days today.
I had that feeling, you know when you are trying to take a tampon out on your end of period and it kind of hurts because the tampon is dry? I had that sensation today?

Now I feel like I have to push something about my vagina? It kinda tickles but uncomfortable. I’m not having any pains at all anywhere btw so can’t be baby ??

Girl names

We have an Elsie and we nickname her “Elsa” like queen elsa from frozen

If we have a girl my husband would love a spin on “anna” without actually calling her Anna lol

What names are similar to Anna / could be a play on words?

I’ve said Aria but I don’t know any others
