I have a consultation appointment on Monday with the consultant midwive to discuss options for water birth.. I'm nervous but hopeful after our discussion on the phone today.
Does anyone have any suggestions for questions or things I should ask about? My minds going blank π

No questions but would love to know the outcome as we're due around the same time π

@Lucy I'll let you know π€

I've just recently been signed off for attempting a water birth in a midwife led centre after having to do a good amount of self advocacy to get there. Think the main questions I kept it mind were:
- What are the specific risk factors potentially stopping me from accessing a water birth? (I wanted to be aware of if there was anything else other than a weight on a scale at play)
- What's the process for being considered based on my own medical data versus the line in policy? (My consultant flat out said it wouldn't be an option until I asked this,l. Then she said "well I would need to chat with another consultant and the head of midwifery etc..." to which I said "sounds good" haha)
- My preference for my and baby's care is XXX - what options do we have to make that happen?
- Please record that my preference is X in my notes and that you are saying Y (never had to use this one, but was recommended by a doula)

I also asked alot about absolute amd relative risk - and alternatives of approach.
Ultimately I found they wanted to make sure they had covered their backs in terms of heightened risks versus feeling overly opposed to a water birth. And that there were only a few issues they were really firm on and with those they did a really good job of walking me through why they felt so strongly (I.e. active third stage management for me because I have some fibroids which put my risk of PPH much higher)

thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I'll definitely make a note of these and bring them with me on Monday. Thank you!

Np! A great book that helped me feel prepared for this too is called Fat Birth! Gave me a lot of confidence that what I was asking for wasn't outrageous

And this was a good article too
