Thoughts on Halloween?

Halloween is absolutely hands down my favorite holiday. Of course to each their own and nothing wrong with those who despise it or don’t celebrate! I personally see it as a fun day for celebration, family, candy, and kids being kids, dressing up

I was recently convicted not to celebrate this year. It wasn't an easy decision because I don't celebrate the way that it was originally designed or how present day witches/Satanists celebrate the day. I looked at it as a fun day for my kids and family but we will no longer be celebrating. A pastor that grew up as a Satanist and even dedicated his daughter to the devil when she was 11 spoke about it and that's what stuck with me to leave the holiday alone. Satanists don't participate in good friday/resurrection Sunday. Why are we celebrating their holiday? This is my personal conviction from the Holy Spirit though and it wasn't easy. I really did enjoy celebrating with my kids just last yr.

@Bri so did you stop decorating, watching movies, and allowing them to dress up? I love Halloween, but my partner is firmly against it after watching a video of an ex satanist explaining Halloween.

I love Halloween because of the spooky factor, I love anything spooky, and my kids seem to be the same.

It’s okay! I definitely see where she’s coming from. Of course as I said to each their own, I don’t personally view it as satanic in matters of origin. It’s definitely been twisted over the years and has definitely been taken over with cultism and is presently usually grouped with satanism. I choose to of course, celebrate without anything that could be considered in any evil nature. We don’t dress up as devils or witches or anything related to religion. For example, this year I’m dressing up as a cow lol. I believe it all depends on your beliefs and the way you celebrate to consider if it is sin or not. I don’t believe it’s sin to love and celebrate Halloween if done in the right way.

If you believe in God, do celebrate Jesus's birth on the day he was actually born or the day Constantine the Great changed it to so it fitted in with the Pagan traditions already being practiced in England at the time he concord and expanded the roman empire? 🤷‍♀️

We're not watching the movies, shows, decorating, or celebrating it at all with trunk or treat at a church. The ex satanist video really put it in perspective for me. The origin is satanic and it's still celebrated that way. It's just been commercialized to be seen as fun for kids but if we know anything about the devil he is definitely deceitful. I'm not judging because it took me a while to get here myself. I love all of the Harry Potter movies and loved watching all the Disney Halloween movies during this time of year and taking my kids out to get candy. I even had a group of neighbors we walked around with last year so it helped us make new friends here. But this month I felt convicted to stop and it wasn't easy for me and my husband to cancel it including all the movies that we grew up on but if Jesus died a sinner’s death for me and sacrificed his life and even his comfort to come down to earth and be the perfect example for us.

Then the least I can do is sacrifice a holiday that doesn't make him proud. He told the Israelites not to conform to the ways of the land they were in. As Christians we are to be set apart and we shouldn't conform to the customs and ways of the world but instead put the ways of God 1st.

I love this ❤️ the Bible says not to celebrate Pagan holidays, and pretty much every US holiday is pagan, so we do not celebrate them, including Christmas. What we do celebrate is the Lord's Feast Days which God ordained himself to celebrate, which are mentioned in the Bible.

Halloween in and of itself is not originally a Satanic holiday. It was actually celebrated back in the early times for Christians before All Saints day. It has over time been twisted to be a satanic holiday and more practices a satanic holiday except for the fact that’s now how it was intended.

My sisters and I were never allowed to go trick or treating when we were younger and I won’t be letting my daughter go either as it makes me feel uncomfortable. She is really keen on dressing up so we’ve got her a costume and will be doing a sweet hunt with her in our house but we won’t be “celebrating” Halloween. I have been to Halloween parties when I was at uni though.

My uncle is a pastor . And we do celebrate Halloween. We go all out. Our church does the trunk or treat. Just like everything else in history it has been twisted and many have been brain washed. Do we really know what's true and not true nowadays. I believe in God and still do Halloween 🎃

I grew up with very Christian parents who didn't celebrate Halloween. I feel so upset as an adult that I didn't get to experience it as a child and I am now giving my child the best Halloween experiences. (although, I am not a Christian anymore, so prob not helpful, but just saying it as a perspective of a child)

@Cory hahaha 😆, I don't understand your need to make a comment as such. Don't believe in God, simply scroll past the post. Do believe in God, then maybe contribute a more appropriate response than a simple emoji on repeat, as I dont see how using words is difficult.

If you bothered to read any of the responses, you would see that commentors vary in their participation in Halloween, from not at all to some degree.
