Didn't tell anyone we wanted to name our daughter Hazel and now my husband's grandparents who we see fairly regularly have adopted a dog called Hazel.
Would be weird for them to have the same name but we can't seem to think of a name we like as much.
I feel like it's such a warm cosy name that isn't too common but not weird either.

Oh man this sucks and what are the chances! How often do you see his grandparents? Could they change the dogs name if you explained.
Names I can think of, Willow, Autumn

My niece is named Lavender nicknames Lav or Lavvy, turned out being the perfect name for her
we see them every month or two! I like Willow but my partner doesn't. I do like Autumn but there was a girl I went to school with who had that name and some nasty girls used to call her Au-tummy because she was slightly overweight and I would be worried about that being the same for my daughter :(
I like Maple it has the same kind of vibe as Hazel but neither me nor my husband can see it as a first name
lav/lavvy where we live in England is a nickname for the toilet so I don't think it would work very well here 🙈 my family use it a lot

Hahahah

They should rename the dog imo

Amber, Sienna, Fern?

I love my little Wren Clare.

aw my little one is called Wren xx

Wren or Mabel is quite similar, Hattie

I mean I’d go with hazel
It’s literally a dog- dog and human are not the same
Maybe they can rename it if it’s adopted x

I have a friend who loved a name so much, shared it with family, struggled with infertility for years and her SIL ended up getting a dog and naming it the name she had picked out 🙃 obviously entirely different scenario, BUT my friend was so excited for her baby when she finally conceived and it stuck that she named her baby that name anyway. I would say screw it and use the name you love. If you are set on changing it, we named our daughter Ivy and it feels similar. Maple, Olive, Willow, and Mabel also have a similar feel imo. We are naming this baby girl Daisy, one of our runner ups was Clementine.
Or honestly ask if they can call the dog Pretzel or something 🤣

Personally, I wouldn't change or make concessions for the name you've wanted for your child. Not to sound morbid, but chances are she's more than likely going to outlive the dog anyway! So I'd say go for it!!!

Mabel, Freya, Aubrey are lovely
My 3yo daughter is called Bessie and I just love how rare that name is
