I started with markers at about 6 months. Just helped avoid him sticking it in his mouth and helped be the moving holder of the little canvas but since then I’ve tried water colors. Just a basic 2$ pallet and he doesn’t have much interest. I’ve seen “water” painting ideas online if you want to start the concept of holding a brush.

I put a cut up plate with dabs of paint on it then stuck that in a ziploc and let her “fingerpaint”. Otherwise i stick to waterpens/books

We started with chunky crayons at 12 months but she kept putting them in her mouth. I showed her that they’re for paint but she still occasionally puts them in her mouth .. we did pumpkin painting not long ago with tempera paint and that was fun! She painted some but she also put it in her mouth lol
