I’m looking for other peoples opinions on their experience at Poole Maternity Ward within the last few years.
Good or bad :)
Thanks!

I had my baby 3 weeks ago at Poole maternity and unfortunately had quite a complicated birth. I was in both Haven, the delivery ward and stayed in hospital for 24 hours after and I cannot fault Poole Maternity. Throughout the whole process they were amazing and I felt very supported. Had a very good experience.

I had a high risk pregnancy and was under oasis team/consultant led care and found Poole to be amazing during pregnancy, induction/birth and postpartum, when I had to stay on the ward for a week. However, some of the staff do let down the majority as I did have a horrible care assistant on the ward that was constantly looking down at me and was relentless with her comments ( when I mentioned it to the other staff I didn’t have to say her name and they all knew who it was… shock! 🙄) and some of the clinic staff seemed a bit uptight/ couldn’t be assed but you’ll get that pretty much anywhere. Overall a lovely team it’s just a shame the odd ones are not great and the building is so dated (I had my baby in the one hot week we got in June and there was no aircon/limited fans on the wards, only aircon in the delivery suit 🥲) xx

Mine was neither good nor bad. I was induced and the negative thing about it was the fact that they never told me why I was being induced or the process etc and didn't follow my birth plan. I also feel like they rushed me out of the hospital quite quickly after having my boy bearing in mind I had had an episiotomy and was numb from the armpits down.

I had an induction just over 2 weeks ago, it failed and i ended up with an emergency c section. every member of staff were so nice and explained everything i was concerned about. I was really worried about the whole thing but anything i needed or had questions about they were helpful with. Built it up so bad in my head and ended up being a good experience

I had my little boy 2 years ago at Poole and I’ve chosen to go to Dorchester this time 😂
I was in for an induction which failed, but the antenatal ward was awful, I particularly remember one woman telling the night staff she was in labour and the didn’t believe her, she went all night with no support, only to be told that she was 8cm in the morning and was rushed to the labour ward!
The staff throughout my labour were fine and the staff who helped me through my c section were actually great, although it took them too long to allow me to have a c section as they wanted me to keep going, even though I wasn’t dilating anymore than 4cm after a day of being in labour.
I didn’t feel very well looked after when I was on the transitional ward after my section, the staff didn’t want to help and didn’t respond to the buzzers they give you. The only people I’d say were incredible were those in NICU, but really you don’t want to be spending too much time there!

I’ve chosen an elective c section this time at Dorchester, I’ve only heard good things about there and my opinion is that it can’t be worse than Poole 😂

My eldest is 6 and youngest is nearly 7 months and staff completely different from then to now first time I couldn’t really fault them they where really good and only one memeber of staff I didn’t like. Guess that doesn’t really count now though this time round I had my second just after the news broke about it being inadequate but apart from two midwife’s saying my waters had gone when not care was fine post natal ward no issues and staff where all so lovely and felt really cared for up there so it was just the water issue really with the two midwife’s I mean they where nice but they where wrong and got it wrong so what could of been a quicker experience then 9 hours 45 mins it took that long but I think it’s just cos of the mistake.

Best thing ever happened to me!

Fantastic!! Youngest was born last week, middle was born 18 months ago. Every single member of staff dealing with me was incredible!

My experience was 10/10, honestly couldn't fault the staff, they were so lovely and helpful. I was able to have the water birth I wanted in the Haven suite, had a slight complication with the after birth but was sorted in the end and was discharged within hours 😊

Although I had a very complicated birth (little girl born at 28 weeks via emergency c section!) I found the care amazing!

Outpatient antenatal care was excellent, couldn't fault it. Had a planned c-section as baby was measuring too big to deliver safely, was told that they do 3 planned c-sections per day with the most straightforward first to most complicated last so that if it takes longer it doesn't push everything else later, they did the opposite so when they got to me I could overhear them saying they weren't sure they would do mine that day even though I had fasted and had no water for almost 15 hours and taken the medication etc but didn't actually come to tell us that. Postnatal ward wasn't great, absolutely roasting hot to the point I almost fainted the next day and every time they said they would be by to do something they would be at least 2 hours later than they said, they said they would help me get up and walk for the first time by 9pm, they left it until 11pm when my husband had to leave. The theatre staff however were marvellous, my anesthetist was really supportive and comforting! The op itself was a breeze!

I had my baby there 2.5 years ago so COVID rules still applied. I got induced and my husband wasn't allowed to be with me until I went up to delivery. The midwives were incredible and really supportive. I had to stay in overnight without my husband and the staff were lovely. Honestly couldn't fault them x

I had an urgent c section 2 weeks ago and had amazing care throughout. Any complications were dealt with quickly and they obtained consent throughout. The post natal ward were very supportive to all on my ward and took my baby for a couple of hours so I could get some sleep as he constantly wanted to be held.

I'm a private midwife in Poole and have private/independent midwife colleagues nearby, too, if anyone is unhappy with their care at Poole! I'm happy to chat about an alternative :)

I had my daughter in March 2022 and honestly the midwife’s and nurses were amazing! I had an elective c section and from the moment I got there at 7am till I left the next day at 3pm the care and support was brilliant. Couldn’t fault nothing and always there to help with anything! Constantly checking in on us, asking if we wanted a tea or water. They will look after your little one if you want to go for a walk, to the toilet etc. I also was in and out through my pregnancy and every single time it was really really good. Couldn’t fault them at all ☺️
