I haven’t had to do this yet, but I would explain that doggie is sick, and is not going to get better. He/she is going to cross over the rainbow bridge where they will run and jump and chase squirrels, play fetch and not feel sick anymore.

I haven’t seen “All Dogs Go to Heaven” in like 30 years, so I might give that a watch and see if it’s appropriate.

I’m sorry for your loss. 💜

The good thing about them being so young is they are very resilient and it’s a not so intense conversation. My hardest conversation about pet loss is with my 16 year old. That breaks my heart she sat in her room for days and cried when our cat got hit by a car. And our dog is getting older and having more and more seizures and while he is still alive, she has worked herself up after one of his seizures just thinking about him dying one day. But my 3 year old he’ll occasionally ask about our cat and I’ll explain it to him again and he will go on about his day
