Bronchiolitis

We’ve just got back from the hospital after being told our little girl has bronchiolitis. She’s barely drinking/eating and they told us to keep up with the fluids as much as we can. Does anyone have any advice on this? She coughed so much she brought up all her milk from her last feed 😢

If she stops drinking & eating & has a noticeable neck tug as well as sucking at the ribs breathing difficulties & a temp that’s not going away, then call the hospital back. Otherwise, lots of sleep, cuddles & fluid/foods as often as possible along with calpol and ibrufen - likely a sore throat from coughing too! I also propped up my LG’s mattress by putting a pillow underneath to help coughing and also put her water straw bottle in her cot with her. Such a hard time, sending hugs 🤗

Thank you both. Last night was so scary being told to get her to the hospital ASAP. We just really need to get fluids in her but so hard when they refuse! I will start leaving her bottle in with her at night time though! Thanks for the advice. I’m hoping the temp doesn’t spike again as that was awful x

My son had this last week and wouldn’t eat very much or drink. It was awful to get anything into him. I ended up giving him juice (very lightly diluted) and that was the only thing he would drink. Honestly i gave him whatever he wanted, all he wanted was milkybar buttons or a yogurt. I know at this age they shouldn’t have too much of this stuff, but I thought something was better than nothing. He’s now back to himself and eating as normal again. I hope she recovers soon xxxxx

Aww one of my twins had this two weeks ago, it’s horrible 😢 he wouldn’t stop being sick, I offered him dry foods like toast, breadsticks and cheerios but didn’t push it and just concentrated more on water and milk. I took him to drs 3 days after A&E told us bronchiolitis, his wheezing and breathing had got better but I was worried he was getting dehydrated. The dr said his ears and mouth was inflamed so she prescribed him antibiotics and after them he got better. I would just say trust your mum gut and if you feel she’s not right, take her to be seen xxx

It's so scary when they cannot breath properly.. my little boy had croup a couple of weeks ago, had to rush him to a n e and they gave him 2 steroid medicines and put him in a nebuliser. It helped. He was still poorly and went off his food. We just offered him all his favourite foods but all he wanted was boob milk! Was trying to wean him off it and it all went back to step 1 again😫
