Hi all, people with long commutes, when are you starting to turn stuff down?
I work from home the majority of the time but commute to Manchester once a week, sometimes twice, which is around a 2 hour commute not including time to get to/from stations. I don’t mind this at all and like going in as I get to catch up with my team.
My work has been really good with my pregnancy and it’s my choice whether to go in / stay home. My question is how long would you wait until not committing to the full commute? I’m 27 weeks at the moment and happy to still go in once a week. Generally I’ve said yes to pre-Christmas commitments (I have workshops at 29 weeks, 31 weeks and a meal at 32 weeks) but have said I’ll flag closer to the time if anything changes.
I’m more cautious about post-Christmas commitments though and someone has suggested a client lunch in January, timing tbc, but I’ll be at least 35 weeks. Do you think this is too late to say provisionally yes? Am I mad for thinking I might still be able to get around at that point?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and have a 1.5 hour commute to work each day including a connection. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes I find the standing at stations, on trains and walking between platforms a bit painful. I'm going to stop commuting from Christmas and take annual leave before maternity because I'm worried the trains will become more and more unreliable as the weather gets colder. I haven't got another way home and would hate to be stranded when I just want to be comfy at home after a full day.
I think you'd be able to do the commute in Jan when everything went smoothly, but it's whether you can cope with delays/cancellations/ sudden platform changes at that point.
