Got a foster child(14 months) and still in diapers. They had a terrible rash and cries every time he takes a bath or gets his diaper changed. I’ve been working with him since he came two weeks ago and the rash is pretty much gone now but he still cries I guess bc he expects it to still hurt. After the rash is completely gone, how can I potty train him and how long does it usually take? I already got him a potty and training undies.

Is he showing readiness signs for potty training?
I actually have no clue what those signs are since I have no children of my own.

Ok! When a child is ready to potty train, you'll often see a few things: letting you know when they've wet/spoiled their diaper, hiding to poop, asking to sit on the potty, removing wet/soiled diaper, to name a few. Given the history and age of the child, I would recommend holding off on potty training - work on helping them feel safe, secure, comfortable first.
Are you working with an adoption coach to help you transition the child with a strong foundation of trust and connection?
yes but we have not started yet. We start next month

Oh that's awesome! An adoption coach to help with mindset is key to a successful connection 💕
