Ate smoked salmon!! 25 weeks pregnant

Please help with some reassurance 😢😢😢 I’ve just eaten some smoked salmon for breakfast without even thinking!! When I then had a thought after oh maybe it’s not ok, and I’m panicking now I will have hurt my baby or even worse! I made myself sick afterwards but it didn’t all come up

If it’s cooked then there shouldn’t be a problem? I think you’d cause yourself more harm inducing vomiting than you would eating salmon. Most things in moderation are ok. You wouldn’t have hurt your baby from eating salmon. People drink and smoke through their pregnancies and have perfectly healthy babies (not that I’m recommending that obvs) try not to worry 😊

It was smoked salmon so straight out of the packet in the fridge. It wasn’t cooked as you don’t tend to cook smoked salmon normally 🥲🥲🥲 hoping as it was a one off I won’t get listeria?

It is advised not to eat due to a risk not that you will harm yourself and baby. It is a low risk, you know now. Save for after baby don't beat yourself up xx

Most things from UK supermarkets are super low risk anyway. Honestly don’t panic, the chances of listeria are super low! You and baby will be fine 😊

It's advised against because of the risk of bacteria. The risk is actually minimal because of food standards in the UK. You'll almost definitely be fine, you just know to avoid it now. If you have a dodgy tummy the next day or so then go get checked out, otherwise there's almost definitely nothing to worry about.

My friend eats sushi and she's pregnant 🤣 has done through out her whole pregnancy and she's due in 2 weeks! But I still wouldn't risk it as I'm just a paranoid wreck 😅

Ok thank you so much everyone. I will see how I get on over the next few days! But sounds like I don’t need to worry too much. Xx

I’m more than sure you will be just fine! It isn’t solely raw as it is smoked! Plus food standards in the uk are quite high. Try and think of it as giving your baby a really nice dose of omegas, it will be super supportive of his/her brain development, as salmon is nourishing for baby rather than worrying yourself soo much about the very small risk. I hope this helps your worry! Don’t worry I’ve done it too as with smoked meats, hard especially as it’s everywhere this time of year! ✨✨

I'm certain you'll be okay 😊 everything in moderation is what I say, not just because of pregnancy but in life. I've eaten things that may not be recommended but I'm small doses and not often I don't see the harm and no harm has been caused. I've eaten smoked meats and certain cheeses a cheeky small wine 🤣All the best merry Christmas! ❄️🌟

Oh no… I eat smoked salmon…. X

The smoked salmon will have been flash frozen then transported to the supermarket. This will have killed anything in it. The risk is rediculously low in the uk because of food standards so I wouldn’t worry. At some point we will have all eaten something on the recommended not to eat list. My first pregnancy eggs weren’t allowed but by the time I’d had him the rules were changed and any form of cooked egg was fine because we vaccinate our chickens in the uk so there is infact no risk. I’d been acting like any form of egg was going to kill me and my unborn child 🤦‍♀️

Thank you all soooo much honestly you’ve made me feel so much better! The internet and google is a scary place. I should always come on here first instead of googling! Xxxxx

What Hannah said! Eggs are very confusing as everything online says to avoid like the plague! What they don't say is pasteurised egg products are fine and all UK eggs are so there's no reason to avoid stuff.
Like Jade said, I've had small bits of so called "unsafe" foods, camembert and deli meats mainly. Baby is perfectly healthy. I did the same with my first x

I know the panic! I have mistakenly eaten things that were mislabelled or not on the NHS list but on other 'banned' lists at several points this pregnancy. It's a horrible feeling but I've tried to rationalise, if I'm not feeling unwell after 12-24 hours, me and baby are fine. I know several people who ate these foods all the way through pregnancy xxx

Avatar

I literally did the same about 2 weeks ago! Baby is absolutely fine and have had a scan since. Please don't worry xx

Thank you so much xxxxx
