Just wondering what everyone’s opinions on doing antenatal classes eg NCT are, if they have had good experiences etc and if there are any others that anyone has done that are also good?

I did NCT. I did find a lot of it really useful but just be mindful that they used to be the “natural” childbirth trust so they will present medication, induction and such in a slightly biased light. I found that our whole class were terrified of induction afterwards - but I imagine every teacher is different!
Hey Connie, so I spoke to my sister in law who went to NCT with her first child and not second. She said it didn't prepare her for birth, but was good from a social aspect, making friends etc.
The only ones I've seen are minimum 2hr sessions from around 6pm and so are inconvenient for me sadly (if anyone knows of any others in Shirley area please let me know)! But one of the reasons I joined peanut was to build up the social aspect in the absence of NCT and save a whole load of money too!!
I highly recommend it! It’s very informative, a lovely thing to do with your partner, and it’s even more beneficial for them. Also, you’ll make friends there, and it’s quite essential in my opinion to have that support and someone to talk to who goes through the same things.
Chose Bump and Baby instead of NCT.x
I’m not personally doing it but my brother and sister in law loved theirs and still regularly meet up with the families from their class. I’m opting for the cheaper options like La Leche, Breastfeeding Together, Let’s Talk Birth and Baby and a local one to me which is a Birth Prep Workshop x
We’ve booked it but only really for the social element x
@Laura yeah it’s quite hard though isn’t it as quite a lot of money to spend just for the social side x
@Chloë I have seen this I’ll take a look!
@Abigail I will have a look thank you
I'm due first week of march and there don't seem to be any sessions that suit the timeline. Hardly any sessions in January and then Feb is too late for the later sessions.
@Connie B&B were cheaper but included hypnobirthing and baby first aid, whereas NCT didn't. B&B is also taught by midwives. My local club got fully booked pretty early on, not sure if it's the same everywhere. They advised the February course for my due date x
@Chloë thank you I will take a look later!
@Connie yeah, it is - and who knows it might be really overpriced, sure it will help the husband get a bit educated too though x
I’m doing NCT in Feb, we’ve had x2 Friends have Babies (one in Sept and one last week) who both did NCT and recommended it
I’ve booked Happy Parents Happy Baby for Feb - I liked the fact that in addition to the face to face midwife led sessions they have online Q&As with various specialists including doctors. It was also held in a pub slightly closer to us than our local Bump & Baby, which was the deciding factor for us. Was put off NCT as I’m considering an elective c-section and got the impression that wasn’t encouraged by them
