Moving from UK - Best formula in Canada??? HELP!!

Heyyy!!

I am moving from the UK to Edmonton, Alberta in 4 weeks time. My baby is currently on a lactose free milk (currently being tested for possible intolerance) however I am due to start weaning her back onto ordinary formula. Problem is, I don't want to start this while I'm in the UK as none of the common brands sold here (Aptamil, Cow and Gate) appear to be sold at Walmart (this will be our local supermarket). I want to plan ahead and start weaning her back to ordinary formula as soon as I arrive. For those on formula could you please advise on the best ones available?

Note: I don't want anything for 'hungry baby' etc. nothing added, just good old fashioned formula that will give her all she needs as I'm unable to breastfeed. If you could also screenshot the tin as I see there are lots of variations of Enfamil etc. that would be amazing!

Thanks in advance

Bring as much as you can from UK with you. Lol. They have much better stuff over there

Enfamil a+ premium is the top of the line Enfamil formula but they have different kinds like gentlease which is supposed to be better for colic/gas babies so it just depends. We use Enfamil a+ (not the premium one) and that's what my sister uses too. We are going to try gentlease to see if it helps him with the discomfort so it really just depends. I know some people use Similac but that isn't as good I've heard.

@Rachel They're all crap here. And the best like Enfamil A+ Premium is very expensive. We import HIPP using Happy Tots website. But aparently Kendamil has been approved for sale in Canada (I'm in BC and was told it'll be here in the summer specifically in Walmart) but I don't know if that means all of canada or just BC.

I think the messaging that North American formula is crappy is just fear mongering and misinformation. Formula is a highly regulated substance, to help keep babies healthy. If you read the ingredients and the nutrition information, they’re all pretty similar.

I know lots of babies on a variety of formulas who are thriving. My son in particular is turning one, and for the last few months he’s been on Similac pro-advance powder and doing great. He had bad reflux on Enfamil and Kirkland brand.

Sign up for Similac or Enfamil club and they’ll send you coupons to use in the store to help with costs. A lot of Moms also post the coupons on local free items groups on Facebook. Good luck with the move!

Enfamil A+ & Costco Kirkland Brand

Enfamil

Now why are you regurgitating information when one of those brands got recalled for contamination in Canada i want to say actually.

It’s formula— it isn’t perfect and every parent need to know the cons just as much as the pros so they can come up with solutions for the cons.

sigh my tone wasn’t the best as it intended in my head. Please don’t curse me 😭

can’t agree more. My LO got gassy and stomach problems after having Enfamil a+ and now she’s doing great on Similac pro advance. Different formulas suit different babies.

We’ve tried a few and Similac Pro Advanced (or just the Advanced) seemed to suit her the best. She had really bad reflux on Enfamil and the Costco brand isn’t always available although she did well with it.

But every baby is different! That’s just the one we prefer from the grocery store brands.

Amaranth in St Albert, Edmonton sells organic and UK versions of Formula. Check with them. Good luck on the move :)

not similar at all lol. North American formulas are not as good, period. They have corn syrup, which is from GMO corn, in America milk cows can be pumped with hormones, they add sugar to formulas as well, palm oil as well which is toxic to the body, UK formula also have some seed oils but guess you can’t eliminate them all. You can get organic formulas in other places but have never seen them at my local store here in canada.

Kendamil is available online through Walmart. You won’t find it in store but Walmart has free shipping so that’s where you can get it, for about $43 non organic can and $50 organic can. Other than this you will have to import if you want another brand.

When I was at the hospital I asked what formula to get and the nurses and doctors on the labour and delivery floor said whatever i can afford. they are all required to have the same ingredients in them they are just formulated differently between companies. The UK has tighter health and food restrictions than Canada and their quality is yes higher however Canada is better than the US and we do have high regulations. Yes recalls do happen but everything gets recalled cars, phones, food, medication, toys, clothes, makeup. any consumer product can and has been recalled at one time or another it doesn’t mean it’s always bad and unsafe, sometimes things are recalled for quality and there isn’t anything wrong, whatever the reason or industry they are required to fix it. Also palm oil isn’t toxic it’s just high in saturated fats, health and food regulators are banning it because of its association with deforestation. They add sugar to formula because a mother’s breast milk is sweet.

I used good start plus and my girl was doign really awesome on it, no spit up very happy baby. When I went to get more from Walmart around New Years time I realized Walmart was all sold out but they had kendamil! I was so excited because I hear it was really clean ingredients and basically batter than other ones but my girl absolutely hated it :( I don’t know why but she was just so unhappy after every bottle and would cry so much and only want to sleep for about half an hour till she was crying again. She actually vomit a lot too which she had never really done before. Usually she would have a little spit or something but this was like full on vomit smelling all over the floor type. So sad because I really wanted the kandamil to work for us. So after that we basically ran back to Walmart and got the good start plus again and boom she’s back to being such a happy baby. It’s so interesting how things can work so good for some babies but be the exact opposite for others 😅

I dont actually know much about formula as I breastfed BUT I do know that in Canada it's very regulated and it's pretty much all the same, just different brands. There are definitely dairy free options available too.

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.

Big nursing bras!

I’m looking for recommendations for good nursing bras for bigger breasted ladies!

I’m currently in a 38H which seems to be the biggest size done at M&S (UK based mama here) and it’s snug and not as supportive as I’d like. When I look online, they mainly seem to be sized S, M, L, XL etc rather than bra sizes.

Any recommendations please?
