14 Day Eviction Notice-Just ranting

Ugh. My landlord came by today and handed me an eviction notice for my husband and I. Luckily he was super understanding about our financial situation, but since he charges the least amount out of every other apartment in the area, he has to make sure his bills are paid too. We only pay $1350, while other apartments in my area for less room and no yards usually charge up to $2400. We are very lucky with our apartment.
But of course holidays came and passed, my husband was out of work, so we just did the have the funds to afford rent this month.
We are waiting for two checks to deposit into my husbands bank account and will pay rent then, but the bank keeps giving push back because my nickname is also listed on the checks so they’ve been rejecting it over and over again (has never been an issue before).
Anyone else struggle with banks doing this? I feel like its a relatively niche issue. I could just use some comfort for the stress Im dealing with rn 🥲

(Photo is edited to remove my deadname & address, just shows husbands first name)

Dang I thought they had to give atleast 30 day notice

i think that’s usually for lease breaking (extra unlisted tenants, pets, etc). We just had failure to pay before the due date. But he unfortunately saw our cats that are not on our lease so 😬😭

What does "holiday came around" mean? You spent your rent money of Christmas presents? Also, that's not the same as an eviction notice. Take it to court and get an extension.

I said what I meant, that my husband was not working for the holidays. It was because his job was sent on unpaid vacation.
We have the money to pay rent, the issue is my husband’s bank not accepting his paper checks, because they include my nickname on them (addressed to him & me). It hasn’t been a problem before but now randomly it is.

file an appeal with the courts to buy some time. Is there no way you can move the funds or cash his checks elsewhere?

Avatar

I think he could cash them at Walmart, but the service center closes before he gets off of work and he cant take time off to go. Which is another reason he cant go to his actual bank either, besides the fact that his bank is about a 2 hour drive from us 😭

Avatar

do you know where I can look to on how to file an appeal? Im not sure how I would even go about doing that

Avatar

Could literally open up a new checking acct online (think Chase / Bank of America) and deposit a mobile check from his phone...

Also, it looks like you live in WA, so I just googled "Washington eviction appeal".

Avatar

is told him to do that too 🤦🏻‍♀️ He was like “I dont want to have to worry about another bank account”. I also suggested he just deposit it to his Cashapp because they deposit the check same day and he refuses.
I will look into the appeal though, thank you for recommending that

oh well you don’t actually have to leave in 14 days. He can’t just throw you out. Gotta file an eviction in court anyways. That letter is just a warning saying their gonna file in 14 days.

if they do then their doing it illegally. Landlords have to go through the court system…Some just don’t follow the rules. & also tenants don’t know their rights. Anyways I’m not telling her not to pay her rent im just saying. She should have atleast 30 days to get it sorted before they LEGALLY throw her out
