RETAINED PLACENTA GWH

Hi ladies,

Not really baby related and abit of a long one but here it goes. I will add a photo to the comments if I am aloud as it is repulsive and if you have a weak stomach you wouldn’t wanna look.
I’m writing anonymously because it’s actually quite disgusting and disturbing.

I gave birth nearly 11 weeks ago. (October) The whole experience was trauma for me but my mother and partner says I done amazing.
After giving birth the midwife was stood there proper investigating my placenta so my mother went over and had a look. It was completely in 2 pieces. I was in hospital for 3 days after giving birth due to this. I may also add weeks before giving birth there was concerns of my placenta maturing too quick which is why I was induced 2 weeks early.
After coming home from the hospital on a Thursday I was straight back up on Saturday. Heres the story.
I’m at home laying on the sofa and I start screaming in pain. Im still bleeding extremely heavy and I’m losing massive clots. And I mean MASSIVE to the point where I’m having to squeeze them out. Clots bigger than my newborn babies head, I’m contracting again like I’m in labour , I go back to the hospital 3 times in 1 week to try and get this issue sorted and am fobbed off with antibiotics. At this point I have a vile infection in my womb. An infection that made me absolutely fu*^ing stink. To the point where other people could smell it 🤮🤮 ( it being the smell coming from my vagina.) I know something is terribly wrong and I keep taking myself back to the hospital. I’ve seen my gp, I’m still not signed off from the midwife because I’m very unwell, I’ve been back to delivery suite 4 times& emergency care 3 times. My blood results are showing high infection but they “don’t know” where it’s coming from. I’ve been trying to tell them the whole time about the tissue I am losing and stuff but they just want the infection under control. I have been on 5 courses of antibiotics in 10 weeks. None of which have worked. I was supposed to have an urgent scan on the Saturday 2 days after giving birth but have one had only had said scan yesterday (Sunday 7th January 2024) . Guess what they found??? Placenta (a concerning amount) left inside of me. From near 11 weeks ago… dead flesh inside of me. Dead infectious flesh that has probably cause so much damage inside my womb. That has given me infection after infection for the past 10 weeks. From my scan I was sent straight to another department of the hospital where they deemed this an emergent and gave me surgery this morning (Monday 8th) .
I guess what I’m trying to get at is .. is this a normal thing to happen? Has this ever happened to anyone here? What was done about it? Did you take it further and was it seen as neglect and malpractice? Does placenta often get left inside people and why the hell was it left so long? I’m really quite lucky to be alive & today was so awful for me. The whole 11 weeks have and I can’t believe I’ve been left like this for so long , I’m so upset and feel really let down by everyone who has supposed to of taken care of me for the last 11 weeks and have not listened to me when I have told them this is what it is?
I’m going to write a formal letter to pals with my cousin who is a trained midwife as she believes this is a never event and shouldn’t of happened , I’m just trying to get other peoples options and experiences, if this has ever happened before
