We had a girl who is now 17 months old and my MIL mostly kept mentioning about how we shouldn't buy pink stuff for her for things like a swing, stroller canopy, etc. Because what if we have a boy. Anyone else get these comments or think like this? My feeling is why should we deprive her of having cute pink or purple things just for the possibility of having a boy. It's not even certain!! Who knows if we're even having another child. It just blows my mind that we as women, even as babies shouldn't get girl stuff because a boy can't have pink things. They're not even alive and we're letting them dictate what we do. It's okay for girls to have the blue or other colors but God forbid a boy is in a pink swing. Not cool.

So my mom didn't say things quite like this, but she did have trouble accepting we weren't having another girl. (We have two and wanted a boy tbh) She would make comments about getting pink but didn't say we may be having a girl. So kinda reverse, she was being more gender inclusive with colors if anything lol. But it's still annoying. She has even bonded more with him than she did with the girls at this young age but it took awhile during my pregnancy for her to stop. And I did tell her to knock it off. I think the worst part of those comments is that the gender doesn't even matter, let's just enjoy the life coming into the world.
Side story, I had two friends growing up, one of each gender, that had their ultrasounds read wrong and surprised their parents so they had the "wrong" colored nursery and things. It didn't kill them lol.

Just enjoy in every way you want to. I don’t think the comment was made with mal intent rather her just chiming in on being economical & probably based on her own experience. My whole family is this way because they went through a lot of poverty. It made them very resourceful.

I chose to have a bunch of gender neutral stuff because we kept gender a surprise. But once she was born I bought so much pink hahaha I'm glad I have neutral stuff now but also love her in pink so 🤷♀️

Great thing about in laws, they have no authority whatsoever. Buy what you want, it's just a color. My daughter has pink everything, green, blue etc, if we have a boy, he gets his own stuff. Hand me downs still work regardless of what color something is. My daughter wears her older males cousins clothes if they don't say boy phrases on them. Enjoy being a girl parent and spoil her.

So that is how I thought. But I also HATE the color pink and most baby stuff like that is pink or gender neutral. So my infant seat, stroller, and swing are neutral colors. But clothes I buy both for my girls, girly stuff and gender neutral stuff. We knew we wanted more than 1 and it's always a 50/50 chance so glad we did it that way. After 3 girls our 4th is a boy.

When it comes to the big stuff I’m buying gender neutral this time just because you don’t use it for long and you can easily resell it or use it for future baby or give it away easily but like clothes I’m buying girl clothes

Yeah it’s all about how it was said. She could have just been thinking economically. I bought and acquired more gender neutral because I thought about reselling, opens the market if not all pink
