Extreme Gender Disappointment

I was so set in the mindframe that I was having a boy and we got the results back from the genetics test kit that had the gender as a side result. And when I was told it was a girl I was totally devastated and still am. Everything that is said to me to try to make me feel better just ends up making me feel worse about myself for being so disappointed. It's causing a rift in my relationship and I've already been struggling with depression and that's getting worse. I feel like the worst person for being so hung up on the gender but I can't help it

Your feelings are valid but please be grateful omg you sound very childish and shouldn’t be having children if you feel this way about gender I think it’s immature. As a mom who has almost lost her fetus you are very privileged to be upset about gender. Gender doesn’t matter when your baby could be in a much worse position

Is this your first child ? Or do you already have kids that are girls

Is there a reason you wanted/want a boy rather than a girl? Getting to the bottom of why you feel that way might help you come to terms with & move past it. You can’t help how you feel but you can hopefully work through the feelings ♥️

I’m so sorry. I was prone to gender disappointment (thankfully I avoided it) but I totally feel you. It’s just something you can’t control, can’t control how you feel. I hope it fades for you sooner than later.

Gender disappointment is normal, even when you know it's not that big of a deal. I'm unsure what I'm having but I'll definitely be slightly sad if it's another boy. That being said, having it be so extreme is not "normal". Could be worse because of your depression. I would say it's worth seeing someone about it especially if it's causing issues with your husband.

Your feelings are valid. I have believed ever since I was a teenager that my first will be a girl. I’m only 6 weeks so won’t find out for a while yet but I already know that if I have a boy, I’ll be devastated. Of course when baby comes along I’m sure I’ll love him the same but I know until that point I’ll be sad about it. I don’t know why, there’s no rhyme or reason to it… but I completely get what you’re saying. Sending love and go easy on yourself xx

The feelings will pass, But totally valid gender disappointment is real. I thought I was having a baby boy and when I was told it was a girl and I was so disappointed i also think it was compounded by my partner really wanting a boy also. I felt terrible thinking that way but as time went on I started to really look forward to having a girl now she’s here I wouldn’t change her for the world it’s just shock cos you were expecting one thing and have been told another xx

@Abigail it's my first child but my boyfriends 4th

@Emily I really wanted a boy because it's just easier for me to picture having a boy. And when I think about it that's instantly what pops into my head is a boy, also my boyfriend also wanted a boy and I know that contributes to what I'm feeling.

when I found out I was having a boy I really struggled because I’d always imagined raising a little girl, having that mother and daughter relationship, helping them navigate being a teenage girl and being the person I needed as a teenager etc I was devastated to be honest. Sounds silly but I was googling advice to get over it and it said about writing a letter. So I wrote a letter to the little girl I’d imagined/named/dreamed of my whole life and it helped me process emotions and genuinely felt so much better after it I was able to move on. Obviously I am now absolutely obsessed with my son and I can’t imagine my life any differently, and you will feel the same when your baby girls in your arms! It’s more just being able to let go and almost grieve what you’ve pictured, so you can then enjoy and experience what was meant for you instead. We don’t always know what’s meant for us until it happens and then it all makes sense ❤️
