I honestly didn't know it was a thing about deli meat until this pregnancy, but my daughter was perfectly healthy last pregnancy

I had deli meat but tried to get it as a hot sandwich and I also had Mayo far into my pregnancy. I had a heathy baby boy last Feb!

Mayo??? Whoops..didn’t know that one

I love honey ham…. It’s been a long 9 months lol

Mayo is only a problem if it is unpasteurized. Also homemade Mayo can be a problem just like homemade fresh Cesar dressing. Any cheeses or dairy products are a problem if unpasteurized though. Just look at labels to make sure it says pasteurized and you’re good. Pretty much all mayo you buy at the store will be pasteurized. As far as meat, just cook it and eat it warm. I know it definitely doesn’t hit the same when you’re craving just like a deli sandwich but it may help with the craving.

ah yes! I see that now lol

Also, I still eat sushi too. I just avoid the stuff with raw fish in it, which I love, but for 9 months I just wait and eat the other rolls. That, and make sure it’s fresh sushi too. Not the stuff that’s been sitting in the cooler in the grocery store for hours.

@Emily Grace exactly! I heated lunch meat in the microwave my whole pregnancy. No issues :)

I always just heated it up before eating the deli meat, but I ate sushi throughout my pregnancy and was fine since the guidelines aren’t none it’s not a lot. I didn’t have either in excess though, so I stuck to the fed guidelines of (I think it was) no more than 12 oz of raw fish a week? I was no where near that, but either way it was not an issue

In France, pregnant women eat soft cheese, and deli meat. In Japan, pregnant women eat sushi, and sashimi. They may have higher standards for food preparation, but regardless, they don’t restrict foods the way that American pregnant women do. As long as you’re not eating exclusively deli meat and sushi, I wouldn’t worry about it. But I would never eat gas station sushi even if I had a gallon of antibiotics ready to go. Just make common sense choices.

that’s not true, in those countries women are also warned about listeria.

I lived there and so I do know that it’s true. My doctor thought it was really funny that American women had a weird diet when pregnant.

Again, I lived there.

and that information is directly from France. Am I to believe one outlier, or information that’s given nationally/globally? I have friends that have been pregnant in Japan, they were advised not to eat raw fish 🤷🏽‍♀️

I don’t care what you believe. I was answering someone else’s question regarding my own experience living in France. And my experience with Japan. You’re welcome to your opinion. But you’re not welcome to say that what I directly experienced in France is not true. Another way to interact here is to share your experience as a counterpoint to what someone else has posted. It’s a more friendly way of operating and it respects other people.

was your experience in France or Japan recent? Science and health advisories could’ve changed a lot since you had your time there. Advances have even changed a lot between my three children.

When someone is trying to avoid a miscarriage, I think it’s best to err on the side of caution. 🤷🏽‍♀️
