Need help please!!

Hello mummas!

I need some help desperately!!!! When my baby had turned 7mo old about a month ago, he had gotten sick with RSV! Took about 1-2weeks for him to fully recover. But everything changed about him after that.

He refuses a bottle at all cost, he refuses a pacifier, and he refuses to sleep for more than 2-3hrs! He is now going to turn 8mo in a couple days. It’s been a month of this craziness!!! He used to sleep 7-7 with a couple of wake ups, but he always just took the pacifier and a couple shhs, and off to sleep again. Now, I have to rock and feed him if it’s been 3hrs.

When I try to give him the pacifier now, he instantly grabs it and takes it out. He also will shoot it out of his mouth, or chew on it. He would take the pacifier at night, or at settle down time. Now it’s like he forgot what it is!

When i try to give him a bottle, he will chew on the bottles nipple. Or turn his head every which way. And cry. I exclusively breastfeed, and since he gets up every 2-3hrs all night now, I thought I could give him a nice big bottle before bed. To ensure he is fed well. And to also give myself a small break. I have tried all bottles & different nipple sizes! I have also tried the bait and switch and he screams at me! For the first 5mo I was exclusively pumping, so I have a lot of stashed milk, and I know he knows how to take a bottle!!

Every 2-3hrs he wakes up and screams. So we pick him up and try to shh and rock him back to sleep. When we lay him down again, if it’s been 3hrs he will continue to cry until I feed him. But if it’s been 1-2hrs I can get him down until the 3hrs. I’m so tired. When he was a newborn, he would sleep 4-5hrs, and I always had to wake him up to feed him. And before RSV every night he slept for 11-12hrs great! I don’t believe in any cry it out method. As his cry makes me want to peel off my own skin lol!

During RSV I feed him everytime he woke up. Because he wasn’t eating very well, and I was very afraid of lack of wet diapers. So I always tried to feed him or at least offer. And he stopped taking the pacifier during this time because I think it was hard to breathe and constantly suck on it.

So sorry for the long rant. I just need some kind of help! I’m a ftm, and I don’t have anyone else. No family to help guide us! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi mama! I’m sorry your going thru this but it always gets better! I would say he may not like pacifiers anymore or maybe that particular pacifier. For the bottles, my only option was to try the next nipple size but you were saying you did try different sizes. I’d say also try looking into a magnesium spray (spray on his feet) or magnesium lotion and rub his body with it to help him sleep better.

I’m so sorry. My son hasn’t had RSV. But just wanted you to know we are in a very similar season here. No paci. Does take a bottle but prefers to nurse back to sleep. Wakes every 2-3 hours crying to be fed. Biting everything. Sleep worse than ever.

Some things I’ve found out:
- there’s an 8 month sleep regression where it gets ROUGH
- teething
- 7-9 months is the height of separation anxiety

Sorry I don’t have solutions just commenting. Maybe teething drops?

Also you perfectly describe the crying reaction. It literally sends me into fight or flight. I cannot handle it. Whining is fine but those desperate cries for soothing are killer. Literally feels like you’re going to claw off your skin or something. 😅

Health Visitor Home Visit

Hii, could anyone explain what the health visitor does on their home visit?

Also if anyone had a home birth, what the midwife home risk assessment involves?

I’ve got 3 home visits coming up in the next two weeks (health visitor, midwives and doula) and it’s making me nervous for some reason. I think having 3 just feels like a lot and a bit invasive if that makes sense!

Did you know this was a thing?

Didn’t know this existed! I’m actually not breastfeeding 2nd time round (though wish I did) after a bad experience with my 1st baby. But this is something I 100% needed 1st time round.

Fighting naps

Does anybody else feel like they spend all day trying to get baby to nap? I get tempted to give up as he must not be that tired but he is too cranky to play or do anything else!

How are we entertaining our babies

What toys does everyone have for their 7 month old?
Nothing is satisfying my little girl she's got blocks, rattles, playmats loads more. She would much rather hold my hands and walk all day but I cant physically do that and whenever I put her down to play she just wont, is this just a faze?

Any experience with different tears?

Hey Mamas

So my little girl is exclusively breastfed but she wont even take FRESHLY PUMP milk from the bottle. I had a whole 4oz that was going to waste and baby girl was just massanging her gums and smiling lol :/
Ive tried adding extra holes with a needle, the ol' switcheroo (BF first then switch ti bottle) but she's very keen and notices straight away.
Im currently using Nuby and Tommee silicone bottles, and I would like to try more softer, boob-like teats.

Id ideally like her to take a bottle so Dad can give me a REAL break yknow.

Has anyone had this same experience? Any teats one would recommend?
Thank you in advance!
