Going into labour before induction

I’m going in to be induced tomorrow but I have been having cramps and tightenings tonight (uncomfortable but not painful) pains in my legs, a bit of leaking and I think I may have lost my mucus plug tonight. What happens if labour has started, will they still try to give me something to push it along or let it all happen naturally?

Once your 4cms your in active labour and have to go to the labour ward / home from home. Before that point I would assume they could still follow through with the induction.

Do you know if they would just let it happen naturally and not induce you then? Seems silly to continue with starting the induction when things have already started happening themselves

If you just explain tomorrow you would like to wait another 24hours or 48 hours to see how you go. Maybe just ask for a wee check over to make sure baby happy etc and if so there’s no reason why you can’t wait and see for another day or 2 x

This happened to me funnily enough. I went to my induction appointment and told them that I thought I was in labour. They hooked me up to the monitors to check baby’s heart rate and mine etc then did a check on me.

Turns out I was 4cm and they said they would usually send you home at this point but my temp was too high and drs wanted me to wait around. Had baby 4 hours later lol. This was the Royal.

They didn’t give me anything to move me along.

I think I remember the lady saying that they could have broke my waters but there were too many women in that day to be induced so I couldn’t have mine broke.

If you are having regular contractions and are finding it difficult tomorrow I would either go to your appointment or assessment unit,

Only thing I would say is that if you go to your induction appointment and you are in established labour and they keep you in, they will keep you likely on the induction ward.

They didn’t move me round to delivery suite until I was basically ready to push which meant that I didn’t really have access to pain relief. I wanted an unmediated birth so this didn’t bother me (until I was shouting for an epidural but I got gas and air in the end as was too far along and all was well🤣)

So if you do go and you want an epidural or anything just be vocal about it and don’t be afraid to say as they didn’t really check me on induction ward so had no idea how far along I was after the first check until I was basically ready to push🥴🥴

why would they have usually sent you home at 4cm, is that not active labour? I had contractions during the night but nothing today. Still waiting on phone call to go in. I’m with the ulster

I think until your contractions are regular etc, I’m not 100%! It was my first baby as well so they expect first time mums to be in labour for a good while so that could also be why they were going to send me home? I don’t think they expected me to go so quick.

You know your own body so honestly just stand your ground and refuse to go home if you would rather stay!

If you’re dilated enough they would probably offer to break your waters maybe?

How excitingggg! Your wee one will be here before you know it!

Good luck xx hopefully baby is here safe and sound xxx

But for anyone reading this after pls remember you do not have to be induced, no matter how far along you are, you will have to be checked daily after day 14, be your own advocate.
I was induced with first and refused induction 3 times since and will refuse it again this time and the midwives have always been supportive of it and happy to go with me and I have been lucky to have 3 joyous labours.
