I have a stretch and sweep booked for Tuesday. Then have an induction scheduled for end of the week. I’m just wondering if anyone has some tips for having a successful stretch and sweep, for before or after. Really nervous about having induction would love for her to come naturally! xx

Do you mind me asking what the reason is? Is there an option to leave it to happen naturally? Have you tried all the other wives tales? Long walks, sex, curb/stair walking, stretches, lots of oxytocin etc? X

I've had 2 sweeps. I'm 41+2 and my induction has been booked for Wednesday but when the hospital calls I'm telling them I don't want it. I'm opting for monitoring if he doesn't arrive by Wednesday as I don't want an induction x

I’m 41 weeks and have slightly increased fluid around baby. I’ve had a couple of unsuccessful sweeps.
They wanted to induce me last weekend but I’ve pushed them back and opted for daily monitoring.
I’m now dilated enough that they will admit me to the labour ward, pop my waters and then hopefully my contractions will start naturally. We were put on the labour ward list yesterday and we’re still waiting, so I’m glad I pushed back x

I’m 38 weeks Exactly on Tuesday, and I’m not 100% sure as it’s quite confusing she has basically dropped in centile she was on the 10th and has now dropped to the 5th, she was weighing nearly 5lb on my last scan but as she had dropped in centile they are wanting to induce me early xx

I didn’t know you could decline an induction! xx

I never knew you could opt out being induced! Good luck! Just hoping the stretch and sweep does work but I’m not too confident it will to be fair! As I’m not overdue either. Xxx

you can decline if there is no medical reason that grants an induction. Have you had another scan to check her weight? x

It's always your choice! You don't have to be induced, they might make it sound like you have to do what they say, but it's always your choice. They might just be a small baby, if you're still feeling regular movements and happy to continue, maybe ask for more monitoring and see how you go? Inductions won't always work, and often lead to more stress to yourself and baby, and more intervention x

no way! I’m not too sure whether I’d be allowed to I don’t know as she has dropped in centile and they said that the recent scan and that was going to be the last one and they wouldn’t scan me again, she’s weighing 4lb 13oz roughly. They just said that it’s best to get her out sooner rather than later incase she drops anymore. It’s really hard to understand it’s all super confusing xx

https://www.nct.org.uk/pregnancy/your-pregnancy-week-week/third-trimester/induced-labour-reasons-pros-and-cons I would definitely have a read of this. It might be the best thing for you and baby, but it should be your choice 🥰 Scans are known to be super inaccurate- usually around 15% out!

it's always your choice but if you don't understand fully, ask them to explain everything to you again so you feel like you are making an informed decision. Definitely ask if you are able to have another scan or increased monitoring too. Ask what the pros and cons of inducing vs waiting are and don't feel pressured to do anything until you are happy you are making the right decision for you and baby x

You won’t be able to have a sweep if your cervix isn’t ready. I had a sweep with 2 of my babies and went into labour within hours with both. I was 5 days overdue with them both as well. I was offered a sweep with baby number 4 a week before she was due but my cervix wasn’t favourable. So you could go in and be sent back if you’re not ready for a sweep x

the doctor was really trying to persuade me, even saying things like ‘I really hope you agree to the induction’ but I spoke to my midwife and a friend who is a doctor.
The doctor offering me the induction wanted to reduce my risk to zero by getting baby out but I’m happy that any risk is really low and baby has been fine. It’s how you feel, just don’t be persuaded into something you’re not fully sure on, ask plenty of questions, etc xx

woah😍that sounds like a perfect birth!! Congratulations!! How far along was you when you had the stretch and sweep may I ask ? Xx
