My son , who's 15 months old now, has been going to nursery since November. But he's been getting sick way too often. Out of the four days he's supposed to be there, he only manages to go for two. The rest of the time, he's home dealing with stomach bugs or other stuff. It's really starting to worry me.
I'm thinking about switching nurseries because it seems like something's not right there. Do you think this amount of sickness is normal, or should I start looking for another nursery? Just curious to hear your thoughts.

Honestly very normal. Every child I know who’s started nursery is the same, including my son. Their immune system hasn’t been exposed to anything for a year and then is suddenly exposed to 30+ children it will happen. The same would happen if your child never went to nursery but then started school at 4, the first few months of school they would be ill. But your child’s immune will get used to it and it will get less!
Unless you use a childminder every single nursery will be the same I’m afraid. Even a childminder who looks after a few children at once will be the same

Mine started in December and let me tell you he’s been sick every week just like you he only gets to go max 3 days then he’s sick for over a week and the it all starts again! It’s horrible to be honest I have him sense Saturday with 39 fever and tonsillitis 😫! Xx

Exactly the same. Also started in November. He has had 2x gastroenteritis, 2x conjunctivitis, hand foot and mouth and an ear infection. I was thinking the same but starting to think it might be normal. 🤔

Same, started in October and in 3 days and is always sick! It’s got to the point the doctors are sending her for bloods to check her immune system is ok it’s been that bad x

Mine don’t go nursery has been like this Lool coz of sin who who goes bring it jk e n ends up spreading g to her

My little one has been ill more than well since he started nursery. Had hand foot and mouth and chicken pox. Think it's normal, especially coinciding with winter. I'm sure when the colds die away slightly and they've been there a while it'll ease off.

Yep, same here. My boy seems to come home with a cold every week. Since the middle of January we have had covid and he has had conjunctivitis too. I barely went to work for a month!! 😩

Thank you to everyone I talked to GP. My GP said that this year has been the worst in terms of child infections and sickness.
We received a call from the nursery today informing us that they found cases of scarlet fever, so my son will stay home this week too , to avoid catching it.

It is pretty normal, and I hate to say this but it only gets slightly better. My 4 yo has been ill quite a bit this winter too. Came hope with a sickness bug so that was a whole week of nursery wiped out.
