The sofa

I’d teach to get down, turning around onto their belly with their feet down and then getting down that way like you see kids do with stairs :)

We do what Abbie said. My girl is part mountain goat so climbs everything, thankfully since teaching her to get down safely we've not had any falls as she always climbs down backwards feet first

When my daughter started with this, we just had to keep showing her to get down feet first, otherwise she would crawl face first off, she eventually got the idea after a few attempts, just need to keep encouraging them to go feet first, there's little point in saying no because in my daughter's case, this just egged her on more to do it 🙄😂 just keep showing him how to go down the right way and after trial and error, he'll get there.

I also taught my daughter that! It definitely helped for a few good months, but now she became bolder, is trying to go up and down the stairs like grownups and slids off the sofa on her bum rather than on her tummy😄

We also did the same so now when he’s on there and he wants to get down, sometimes he needs reminding to “turn around” and he does it himself 😊 he’s very independent

Thanks everyone. My husband wanted to try the no approach but I have argued it's inevitable so we need to teach him how to get down safely!

We taught to go feet first and always said “safely”. Little girl now says “safely” herself as she is getting down feet first. That way when we need to remind her when out and about we can just say “safely” and she knows what that means x

Same as the rest, I taught her to safely climb down. I read that it is really important to let them explore, so I let her climb on things. Obviously, I supervise her but she manages to get herself down safely most of the times.
