I know itās early days to be thinking about stuff like this but I think itās better to plan and be prepared early for something as big as this𤣠and this is more of a rant than a questionš¤£
I have said from the minute I found out I was pregnant I want to try and give birth as naturally as possible and reason being is before this lil bean came along me and my partner have suffered 5 loses and since we have struggled so much I want to experience labour as much as I can as Iām scared Iāll never get to do it again but everytime I say this to anyone I get āoh just wait till itās happening, youāll beg for the epiduralā or ādonāt be stupid, you have no idea what your getting yourself in for and thereās no medal for doing it by yourselfā and loads of things along those lines as if I think itās going to be a breeze and isnāt one of the hardest things Iāll probably ever doš„²š¤£ and no one seems to be understanding why I feel this way even when Iv explainedš I am not naive in the slightest and I know itās going to be the worst pain Iāll ever experience (Iām also not being ridiculous and saying Iāll refuse help if it gets much when I know if it does Iāll be begging for itš¤£) but I think I would feel worse if I just went in straight away and ended up out my face on pain meds and not experience possibly the only chance Iāll have at giving birth fully (I have really bad back problems and a back straining job so I definitely want to avoid an epidural at all costs) am I being ridiculousš¤£????? Now thanks to everyoneās attitudes itās making me more determined to try and do it by myself and prove them all wrong since they seem to thinks thereās no way Iāll be able to do itš¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£

I'm with you on the not wanting an epidural & on some research, apparently a water birth is meant to help reduce pain and relax you more (I've never given birth so I can be 100%) but I also know many women who have given birth with just gas and air it isn't impossible and they say its mind over matter. What will be will be with labour and we will get through it, it's what our bodies our made to do x

With my first I wanted a natural water birth did really well but unfortunately for myself my body struggled and baby did as well so ended up having an emergency c section. Iām glad I got to experience contractions etc. you do whatās right for you and donāt let other people change that!

Urg people Love trying to scare new Mum's, honestly it infuriates me.
People do manage natural labour, it is not some unheard of thing.
At the end of the day no one can predict what your labour will be like - You might be like me and your labours will be 2-3hrs and you'll barely have time for gas and air, or you might be someone who labour's 36hrs and needs more pain relief. Or anywhere in between, or some other factor.
Make a birth plan, share it with your midwives, and just know it might not work out. Which, honestly, its clear you're already aware

Sorry but this annoys me so much. At the end of the day it's your choice and opinion. No one knows how they will react to being in labour. Some find it "easy" some have a more difficult time. I had to have an emergency epidural with my first and absolutely hated it. Would never recommend it to anyone!!! There is a lot of things you can do to prepare your body for a smoother more natural labour. Just remember it's your body and your body knows what it is doing so trust it šš„°

I understand where you are coming from. I had the same with my daughter ( was my first labour) I wanted water but couldnāt but did it with just gas and air. It is possible and my midwife team were great. As long as you just communicate with your labour team exactly how you feel, thatās the important thing and have your birth partner know too what you want so they can advocate for you if needs be. Also, on the flip side I would make sure youre aware of the other procedures etc that may occur if needed so if things have to change you can also make informed choices - knowledge is power ā¤ļø

Don't walk, RUN away from epidural! š
My sister who had birth her 4 children vaginally with no gas and whatever, and had been encouraging me I could do it. She gave me all the needed boost before I went in for my first.
I was doing just great with labour and baby was almost ready to come out before I felt like I was going to pass out. Midwife recommend epidural at the last minute (knowing I wouldn't turn down at this point even though I had told them earlier I didn't want), I said yes and REGRETTED it right the moment the needle went through my back! š©
It did NOTHING to help! š© I was still in the exact pain! And even worse because my legs kept shaking as a side effect of the epidural they said.
My job is also back-breaking and coupled with breastfeeding the baby, I am still struggling with the bad back effects of the epidural even while pregnant with the second one now! š¢
I keep praying and preparing for another natural birth! As far as there are no complications for a c-section, we can do it. š¤

I also didn't want epidural and I didn't. I did appreciate the gas and Air though. I think generally it's in the room anyway so easy to have it if needed. I don't see any harm in wanting to try without, especially if you don't pressure yourself. Even if you start with none that's still something and you'll have that feeling even if you add something later. If other people's opinions are upsetting you maybe don't tell everyone until after lol.
Thank you everyone, just really needed a rant on here𤣠itās not even like Iām telling everyone my plans itās mainly family just because theyāve asked, I wouldnāt mind if they were like ājust remember itās going to be hard so donāt beat yourself up if you donāt manage yourselfā instead of just absolutely shutting me downš¤£š„² xx

My midwife said to try and go as natural as possible and while thatās not for everyone if thatās what you want to do Iād say go for it!! My sister had a natural birth and she said it was amazing so yes definitely go for that if you want :)

I hate having convos with others (esp those who have had kids) about my birth plan because immediately there is a bias based on how they did it / perceive it. You do your research and do it your way. Having a solid understanding of natural birth and natural pain management like breathing, gas and air, water, movement, positioning, etc, can only be a positive thing for you, even if you end up using your back up plan. I've heard there are other benefits in the golden hour after pregnancy as well, and personally I'd prefer to be in my right mind for that (if possible).
