Adhd again, waiting 3-5 years?!

I’ve just gone off of the phone with gp, he told me to come to see him face to face in next couple of weeks- fine. Then he’d refer me to a clinic and waiting time is 3-5 years to get diagnose ? 😱 see I knew it takes some time but excuse me ? .. also the only thing he asked me over the phone was “are you restless?” I was like well.. yeah.. he said ok I wanna as you face to face. I’m speechless.

Yes the waiting list is massive. Unfortunately there has been a massive spike of referrals for assessments following lots and lots of misleading tiktok/insta videos talking about symptoms they have of ADHD- these are mostly symptoms that can happen to anyone and arent always indicative of ADHD so now everyone is self diagnosing and often dont have ADHD. I would suggest finding all your school reports as it would most likely have been evident in childhood too and they will look for key evidence in school reports or family reports if and where possible.
The minimum wait time is Birmingham and that is now 2 years i believe.

I got my diagnosis through right to choose and waited far less than the local ADHD service. If they feel that a referral to the ADHD service is suitable then ask about right to choose and if you were to be diagnosed whether they'd be happy to take over shared care, or if the local services would accept a diagnosis and then go through the process of medication if that is what you would like to happen and is indicated (sometimes it's a shorter wait as I know you P-UK their titration waitlist must he about 8+ months especially with the medication shortages and my local MH services got me on medication 4 weeks following accepting my referral)
