Help! Advice from the pros please!

Good morning you lovely lot, I have questions! I am 31 weeks pregnant with baby number 3, both my other cherubs were formula fed and I’m planning on exclusively pumping to feed this little fidget, I have clawed through a lot of internet searches but every where has different answers, when do I pump.. from birth I mean.. straight away when she’s out? And when do I pump for her feeds.. when it’s due? Half hour before? Or half hour before at first till I get a little supply then pump while she’s having a bottle? Just looking for what is not just best but easier to manage, I have wearable pumps to do the job rather than ones that I’m attached to the plug socket lol and help/advice is appreciated

Thankyou

I started pumping whilst in hospital literally the morning after birth. I pumped for 10 mins whenever baby wanted a feed. I was an oversupplier from the start though. They recommend pumping at least once between 12am and 6am because that's when the production hormone is at its highest - I didn't drop that pump till around 8 weeks in. Once you hit 8-12 weeks your supply will regulate. I originally was pumping every 3 hours, then at least once over night. Now nearly 7 months in, still exclusively pumping and I do 3x 30-40minute sessions (breakfast, early pm and bedtime) xx

I started pumping on day 3, when my milk came in and she wouldn’t latch anymore.

Like Nicola, I was an oversupplier from the begging. I was pumping 10/15min every time she had a bottle, which was about 12 times a day. Because I expressed so much milk, I dropped the night session when LO started sleeping through (about 2 months).

Once I got to 3 months I started pumping on a schedule, every 4hours (5 sessions a day). At 6 months I dropped to 4 sessions and at 9 months I dropped to 3 sessions.

You can try and harvest colostrum to feed the first few days and have a few ready made formula bottles at hand just in case. I would always save milk from the previous session for her next feed as I never wanted to make her wait.

Wearables pumps aren’t advised for building a supply as they don’t have a good enough suction. I’d recommend a hospital grade plug in pump.
