You’d only be eligible for maternity pay if you’re working for your current employer past around wk 25 (I think) of pregnancy. If you start a new job you won’t be eligible for SMP from them so it would have to be maternity allowance.
For Mat allowance - “employed for at least 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before your baby’s due”. Here’s a calculator to help figure it out. Hopefully you were in employment before this current job?

Have they mentioned anything to you about performance issues? If not, I’d be making it a bit awkward for them and getting in an email that you feel things are going well as you haven’t had any performance issues raised, and that you hope that telling them about your pregnancy on x date doesn’t affect your employment with them.

You won't be eligible for maternity pay through another employer if you're already pregnant. But if you've already worked enough you'll be eligible for maternity allowance which is £170ish a week for 39 weeks. If your household income is low you may be eligible for universal credit too so apply for that. If you qualify for hat you'd also get the sure start great of £500 (one off).
