I’m currently pregnant with my second and I’m thinking about doing epidural this time around. I’m nervous about it because I’m scared about the repercussions… so my question is, for those who have had it, do you have back problems from it? Any regrets? Any complications or complaints? Thank you in advance

I just had my second. Had an epidural both times and have not gotten any back pain from it. It honestly depends on how good the anesthesiologist is.

Getting the epidural there is pressure when they give it to you but soon you don’t feel anything I’ve heard some people say they feel pressure when pushing but no pain. I don’t have back problems from having it some women have told me they do but it really depends on your body. I had to have it when I had an emergency c-section. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I want to have a natural birth without the epidural but I don’t know if that will be possible

No back problems, no regrets, I had a fantastic and empowered birth

I had it with my first and it was amazing. I wanted it with my second but there wasn't time. No issues or back pain at all.

I had it both my babies. No complaints.

This is all so helpful and reassuring 🫶🏼

I've had it with two induced births as the induction was awfully painful at the max drip level
I have back pain already normally so it gets a little more tender after for a couple months but then goes away by itself
First time the guy did fantastic was beautiful and a breeze
Second time it failed so I had numb legs but felt all the induction pain on my stomach and legs
So it depends on the doctor
If you already have back pain (but in most cases it's temporary pain if you get some)
And well if you have time lol
I'm not worried about having another one at all

if it helps be reassuring my first was emergency c section I was out cold before I even got to the hospital so unsure if I had it for that
But both my inductions I did without c section and only needed induction for my third due to gestational diabetes (my second was because my body wasn't used to labour and being very slow with risks the scar)

when you say induced, what do they do? I haven’t had any OB tell me YET that I would need to be induced. I’m currently 38 weeks and 5 days
I do have back pain and I see a chiropractor but that was just onset by this pregnancy, never before this

Honestly, I wouldn't do it if I could go back in time. They gave it to me and it didn't work. Still felt everything and they hit a nerve so now I'm dealing with a ton of messed up symptoms and have trouble eating and speaking as well as other stuff. Not worth it in my opinion.

I was in labor for 3 days so had no choice as the pain was unbearable.
Because of it i had few hours sleep before starting pushing which helped greatly.
I had numbness sensation in my leg for couple months PP but it went away itself.
The application was uncomfortable but not painful.

I ended up having one although I didn’t initially want one so I’m sure this will have impacted my experience. But for me I had to keep reminding myself that the feeling is going to come back as after hours of heavy numb legs you can start to feel a bit stuck and frustrated. I also felt disconnected during the pushing phase HOWEVER it was very good pain relief and a lot of my issues were mental but had I gone into my labour already having decided to have one I’m sure that would have changed my experience and been more positive

I got my epidural at 9cm . I’m fine

I had an epidural, no side effects or issues since. I could still walk to use the toilet and when it came time to push i could change positions/squat etc.

I’m so sorry to hear that about your experience

Had 5 epidurals and haven’t experienced any back pains.

My only regret is not accepting it sooner! I was so hell bent on having an unmedicated birth that I wasn’t listening to my body when it was telling me that it needed help. No complications, no complaints. I mean, I did massively pee myself like 10 mins afterwards because I was still numb but I was able to regain feeling in my legs very quickly after that!

I had it after they needed to increase my drip intensity during induction after about hour 32/33.
No issues.
I hemmoraged and needed internal uterine massage after birth, so I'm glad i had it in the end as apparently that's horrendous.
I had one where I could still partially move and also feel contractions enough to control my pushing.
Id have it again if I was induced or there was an issue where I knew intervention was required xx

I had sweeps, a little tablet thingy or something up my vagina to encourage extra opening and thinning (both times this didn't work for me but for some it does and they don't need a drip) then they pop my waters and usually put a drip for induction in but as they are impatient with my body due to the pregnancy complications I have the drip maxed out to it's highest level I can have
Hence why it's so painful
But I'm hoping for no drip for my last time as I was even almost 2cms at 38 weeks before even any of that just I do the start part of labour slow
The active part I do very fast once I get to about 5cms im speedy lol 🤣
Just sometimes medical risks mean I need to dilate much faster then my body wants to

I have back pain and a very painful lower back area from having an epi

No issues at all. Had a peaceful birth and will get it again. Just check with your insurance on coverage

No regrets or issues!

No regrets! Mine did fail at 9cm I could feel everything in my butt but was completely numb in the front.

😳😳

it brought me to tears BUT I liked it in the end! My nurse told me every time I felt a contraction to let her know and to push! I instantly forgot the pain and knew each contraction I was one step closer. I pushed for 20 minutes and the epidural failed about 30 minutes before that.

incredible 🫶🏼

I’m sorry to hear that 😞

oh ok! I haven’t had word yet on any of those. I’ll keep all this in mind though, thank you so much for sharing your experience

they as far as I'm aware only do the drip induction as a last course of action some people set off on just sweeps and water breaking and some people only need the little vagina thingy that opens you up etc it's all variable x

With my first son I waited just to see what it would be like and after having it made me able to focus and relax more which definitely helped with pushing and just trying to figure out what to do.
For my second son, I definitely knew I was going to do it again and honestly it was so pleasant and such a relief after 36 hours of labor and he nearly fell out almost 2 hours after that.

great to know, I’m trying to go as natural as possible without interference. This pregnancy is sooooo much different from my first

I've had two, no issues.

I am SO GLAD I had an epidural!!! So many tried to scare me/talk me out of it. It made things so calm, allowed me to rest while I labored and save energy for pushing. I labored for around 9 hours, slept through most of it. Woke up ready to go! It was my first and I literally pushed him out in 10 minutes (and I’m not a big person!).

I had no issues in fact, I loved it. When the warm feeling flooded my lower back, i told the midwife this was better than a hot water bottle.

you should hire a doula ! Or look up to see if your area has volunteer doulas
