At what age did you start disciplining your child?

I think it would be good to define what you mean by discipline. Discipline and punishment aren’t the same.
more so punish

Why would you need to punish a child?
were you ever punished for not listening or following rules as a child?

I would highly suggest you google Gabor Mate and discipline. Disciplining your child has more to do with teaching so they learn the right skills, punishment is behaviour focused and doesn’t mean they will actually learn anything. Punishment installs fear as opposed to teaching them. Remember they’re just tiny beings who are figuring out emotions and everything inbetween. They can’t learn until they are taught in a way they understand.

Won't be doing any of that, I'm not Sargent Mum 😂

Don’t know if you can see this but this also made a lot of sense to me.

I was and I would never do that to my child. Punishments are a lazy short term fix that not only ruin your relationship with your children but often times have the opposite effect in the long run. Our role as parents is to guide our children not punish them.

Not punishment as in anything harmful, just consequences and want them to be as natural as possible like example : baby draws on the wall, you explain it and the punishment/consequence is they have to clean it and maybeee no more markers for awhile or unsupervised if they continue it.
This is just what I learned from child development, working with kids and personal experience.
If they are like really bad a punishment can be something just uncomfortable, like a child who decides to scream for no reason for hours, have them sit somewhere they don’t want to and sit with them so they stay until they stop 🤷🏻♀️ that’s more an extreame case but again nowhere in there are we hurting the child. As far as if you mean hitting its never recommended only “hit” I’ve done is like two fingers not an actual hit, unless it’s them pulling hair when there old enough to understand if tug one hair back 😂 n they learned oh that’s how it feels stuff like that but that’s me personally and depends a lot of stuf

Thank you for sharing this! I think a lot of us growing up were raised with old teachings and a lot of this was corporal punishment because it’s what has been taught throughout older generations and a lot of that causes trauma in us as adults. With that being said as we raise the NEW generation, it’s important to be reminded of our trauma and think for a second- “if this was done to me growing up and I do it to my child- will it cause the same trauma/issues it caused me?” Chances are that answer is Yes.
It’s important to keep in mind that our little ones are literally NEW HUMANS. Meaning they are learning and experiencing new things for the first time ever such as their feelings and emotions. It’s ridiculous to expect babies to be able to understand their emotions/feelings and process them in a productive manner when most adults can’t even do it themselves!
