Scared of the dark

My little boy is 2.5 years old and he’s started saying “spooky” when he sees a dark room. I thought perhaps this is a normal thing that toddlers go through. We don’t ever watch anything scary around him and everything we watch is catered to his age. I also notice a couple days ago he mentioned the word ghost. I thought strange we’ve never explained that to him or what it is. Then yesterday evening my dad took him to bed and my LB pointed out the window in his room to the garden and said “ghost” it was getting dark but still light outside. So we’re obviously very confused and slightly concerned as to why he’s mentioning ghosts, I am just wondering if anyone has any advice or has been through something similar. As he seems genuinely scared of it all which it’s horrible to see.
