Hi mum,

I recently started my daughter on solids. she has had a history of mild eczema
And noticed moong and rice purée would lead to perioral contact dermatitis

So I stopped giving her dal for the time being and gave her only watery rice purée
She had no reaction to that

I would recommend:
- restrict to 1 type of solids for a day (to identify the irritant)
- eliminate the irritant for the time being, let the skin heal
Since if skin irritation gets worse, could need topical steroids for treatment

- I use Avene XeraCalm for her since birth since other moisturisers made her skin go red and irritated! It’s wonderful
I also but a barrier of this around her face before she eats - she does not lick her mouth yet
This barrier helps to prevent the food particles get directly in contact with her skin and helps with preventing her dermatitis

The main aim is to identify the irritant, avoid it for the time being, let the skin heal naturally + use hydrating creamy

If it’s restricted to the face and has not spread to the rest of the body/ eyes and lips are not swollen, it’s most likely to be contact dermatitis

Do contact your MCH for further help though with reintroducing the irritant

Hope this helps xx
