Hey all! HELP, Does anyone have the head flopping problem when babe is asleep in their car seat? We have the Joie 360 and I find it’s a nightmare for when he’s asleep! I hate driving anywhere when he nods off and constantly have to pull over!! I think it’s too late for me to get a refund but I will complain regardless as it does not feel safe at all and causes me so much stress. If anyone has any tips that would be great! It is reclined as far back as it goes and we’ve tried a whole load of combinations with the inserts, and still no luck…

Check that the straps are at the right level behind his shoulders, being too low can cause head flop. They should be level with or ever so slightly below the shoulders.

We rented this car seat or a very similar one for holidays and hated it. We had the same issue!!
But in my mom's car it was possible to lay down the seat a bit more (not using isofix but only seat belts). Putting the head part of the seat a bit lower and the "feet" more up, you know?? That worked for us.

I think the wedge insert (I think this seat has one?) should be in as the straps look like they might be across his belly when they should be across the legs. Definitely check the straps are level or just below his shoulders. I also recommend popping a picture on the FB group Car Seat Safety UK and ask for a fit check.
How old is he? Post 6 months head flop isn’t a safety concern as their windpipe is sufficiently developed that positional asphyxiation isn’t a risk.

Both bottom inserts need to be in without the head hugger attached. Lift the head rest to accommodate then make sure straps are in line with the shoulder when lowering the head rest again ☺️

He looks like he might be too young for this seat but hard to tell from this angle I would post in the car seat safety uk group with more photos as they are trained and can tell you for sure what you can do for a better fit

Same issue. Following

We have this seat and have no issues with head flopping. I think the shoulder straps are a bit low, try adjusting so they're at shoulder level, that should secure baby laying back

you need the inserts in lovely. Both inserts minus the head hugger, he will always flop without them. Most people take them out too early with this seat as they are bulky but he 100% needs them, you will need to raise the headrest to accommodate the inserts x

I have this same problem with the Cosatto 360 and complained. It got me nowhere though but still complain as the more issues they have, surely they’ll need to do something about it x

a 7m will be fine but will need inserts or they will get headflop, my daughter in the photos is a chunky 10m old and has all inserts in x

Same issue but I’ve noticed my little one purposefully puts her head forward as when I try tilt her head back she forcefully pushes it forward 🫠

Have the same issue but my boy does it on purpose he will literally try his hardest to pull himself forward and I have no idea how to stop it!! X

I have this one and my little boy sometimes does it even now occasionally and his nearly 2.
We used a silver cross car seat at first and he done it then too 🤦🏻♀️
That 360 does also recline back slightly also so I always keep it slightly reclined now anyway incase he does fall asleep at any point x

Hey all, thank you for the tips! He is 7 months old but have been using this for a month or so (obviously isn’t asleep every journey). The straps sit snug on his shoulders and when I have the wedge insert in place feel the shoulder straps slip down on him. The bottom straps do go over the top of his legs and not belly (sorry awkward angle for picture as he’s super slumped over). I didn’t know about car seat safety uk so will get some better pictures and check with them! Will keep trying as deffo seems like an error my side xx

you would need to adjust the height of the straps when the wedge is in as it would sit him slightly higher, it can be because they’re too low that they slip off x

he 100% needs both inserts in like my daughter has in the pictures. Without them both he will get headflop, unfortunately the seat has very bulky inserts which means a lot of people remove them early, but if you want to put them both in and lift the headrest to accommodate the inserts and pop another picture up we can help on the fit for you x

fab thank you! Will try this tomorrow and report back. Makes perfect sense!

thank you! Will deffo give this a go tomorrow and report back

if you try and use my photos as a guide will help, these photos were approved by a car seat specialist so I know they are right. It’s so hard to work it all out with these seats lol. But hopefully should help make your little one comfy and safe and no headflop ❤️

Same issue, following.

how old is your little one? Do you have the inserts in? X

Both my children have always head flopped in them drives me insane. They are now 4 year old and almost 2 year old. I’ve tried everything it doesn’t change I’m not sure if it’s just them doing it xx

Straps are too high on the shoulders x

Need inserts in x

I have tried with all the inserts and then tried with all inserts and taken head part out but his head still flops forward. Will try again and adjust the straps too to see if that makes a difference!

make sure you lift the headrest. As with the inserts in it will need to be a fair bit higher x

My lo does this n I find if his bum is to buckle he doesn’t do it as much n I have to tighten straps as much as I can cause looser straps help them flip forward x

Headrest height looks better, I’d say the pads need to come down though, they unpopper so you can slide them down the straps and then do the poppers up again

amazing just done that too! Thanks so much for your help- superstars. He hasn’t fallen asleep yet but deffo looks harder for his head to be forward xx

no worries! The pads being behind the shoulders can sort of force their heads forward too so hopefully a combination of it all will help 🤞🏼

I also checked with Joie directly and they said to remove the head insert. Will copy what they said below incase it helps anyone else:
Hi Jennifer. Our car seats have progressive inserts which are designed to be removed at different stages dependent on a child’s size and development. As a guide, with the 3-part insert, the head support is removed between 4 and 6 months, the top insert between 9 and 12 months and the back wedge insert between 12 and 15 months. As little one is 7 months old, please remove the head support 🙂 As little one grows, always ensure that the shoulders harness straps are coming out of the seat shell level with the shoulders ~ Ella

Yeah so just unpopper the head bit of the main insert, and the fit should look like my little girls x

so from this picture, you need to unpopper the head insert off the main insert, then open up the shoulder pads and move them down on the Velcro so they start on his shoulders and then curve round and down his chest. Then make sure the headrest is right and that the shoulder pads are coming out level with his shoulders, without the head bit he will be able to put his head back too! Post another pic once done. But he already is looking bette❤️

how have you got on so far? Is he still flopping?

so sorry just seen this! No head flopping yippeee. So much better. Thanks for all your help xx

brill that’s great news x
