To those of you who have already had a baby, did the pain hurt the most during the contractions or the actual pushing and getting baby out?
For my first I had the epidural so I didn’t feel anything and I’m really curious to know how you felt. I would like to go without one this time round but I’m open to it if it gets too intense. Not sure how I can prepare myself mentally for the pain 🥲❤️

contractions were the only thing that hurt. pushing didn’t hurt from what i remember, mine came out in 2-3 pushes. after she came out the only thing i felt was tired

thank you 😊

Transition hurt the most. Contractions hurt, but when the baby actually wiggled down into the pelvis region right before I started pushing I felt like I was being ripped apart and the noises that came out of me were animalistic and scary. But it was short lived and pushing came immediately after and wasn’t so bad in comparison.

would you go through it again or recommend getting the epidural?
Thanks for sharing 🙏

I had an unmedicated water birth and plan to do it again for this baby. I back labored and dilated 2-10cm in less than 30 minutes, so that part was a little intense loo but there was a lot of relief during pushing. I think water helps, but I also didn't have the pressure on my back anymore. Also, you know you are close to seeing your baby that point, so you have a whole new strength! The only part of pushing that was uncomfortable for me was crowning, but that's over pretty fast. Overall, nothing I couldn't handle to feel the need for an epidural. It was nice to be able to feel your body and control pushing etc. I feel for me that's a big reason I didn't have any tearing during pushing.

that’s a wonderful birth story, thank you! It’s really encouraging to hear your story. I really want to be able to feel my body to be able to push on my own and move around but I get so worried I won’t handle it so I’m seeing if I can mentally prepare myself…

Something that helped me mentally prepare was watching/listening to positive unmedicated birth stories on youtube and hypnobirthing. Bridget Teyler is an awesome youtuber that I learned a lot from that helped me prepare, but there's also a lot more. Hope this helps!

yes, plenty!! Thank you 🤩🩷

That’s a great question. I’m due this May, my littles will be just barely 17 months apart. I do intend to do it naturally again without the aid of pain relief. I will say I had to be induced with my first and I have heard that pitocin can make contractions more painful and frequent. I don’t know if it had any effect on transition however. I’ll learn this time around God willing.

I was induced too which is why they advised me to take the epidural, I felt like it was kinda “pushed” on me as their reaction to me not wanting at first made them think I was a little crazy 😅 so I want to stay true to myself but it’s just so scary! Once it’s done it’s done…thanks for sharing!

Contractuons towards the end were the only pain i felt. My first was an unmediated birth my second i got the epidural because he was facing the wrong direction and other complications. This time around i plan to have another unmediated birth because i liked it better and i had back pains for months after the epidural.

I was induced first pregnancy so I took the epidural, I didn’t feel any pain. I took 2 hrs in pushing ( i guess cos it was my first baby) I felt pain in the last hr before baby comes out. Honestly planning to take the epidural again this time.
