Aspirin during pregnancy and up until delivery

Hi ladies,

Is anyone else having to take aspirin throughout their pregnancy? I had placental abruption with my first child and I’ve had to take aspirin since 12th week of pregnancy. I’ve always read and understood that we should stop it at 37 weeks. My consultant is making me take up until I deliver in my elective c-section. Feels a bit off and weird as we all know what aspirin does. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and told the same information. X

Sorry to jump on your post I have a 18mth old. I took aspirin up until my section a few days before I stopped I think ,I was also on blood thinning injections the whole pregnancy until the night before. Everything was fine and I actually lost the least amount of blood my surgeon had ever had 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mixed advice here.. I had low PAPP-A and was told to take 2 aspirin in the evening, but stop at 36 weeks. I'm 36 today and have stopped for a few days already. If you have any concerns, I would say ask your midwife or consultant to explain the advice given to your particular situation.

I've been on 150mg aspirin since week 12. It is advised for mothers over 40 (a risk factor). My prescription said until 36weeks but my Consultant Obstetrician asked me to keep taking it until baby arrives. I'm 39weeks this week

Been told to take Aspirin until delivery. Why stop at 37 weeks? 🤔

12w-36w I've done with both pregnancies, coming off at 36 weeks is recommended so that you've had enough time to call 'safe' before birth as of course it's makes it very easy to bleed since it thins the blood & makes it harder to clot (why they get called thinners more than antiplatelets) But is used to allow blood to flow easily to the placenta.
I haven't heard of anyone coming off at 37w but then I guess there are different reasons each person takes them for 😊

Yes I've been on it since 12 weeks too due to family history with pre eclampsia. Have been told to take it right up until my little girl is born x

Same here, placenta abruption in first pregnancy so been on aspirin since 8 weeks and stopped taking at 36 as due to be induced at 38. This was consultant recommendation xx

I was told to stop taking aspirin at 36 weeks as it has done it’s job (anti clotting). The consultant said I could keep taking if I wanted to but it’s not necessary.

My consultant has told me to carry on taking it to ( hoping for a vback but may end up with a c-section as they've refused to induce me in any way )

I have to take it all the way up to birth, and did with my first baby too x
