NHS talking therapies

Hi!
Anyone used nhs talking therapy m? Did you get any help, started to feel better ?
Can they prescribe you antidepressants?

As I understand this taking just present life problems not past? What if I feel like I need to work my past to get better with my life and myself now, where should I go ?

I’m a mental health OT.
I’ve not worked for the NHS since 2018, but I wasn’t aware of talk therapists being able to prescribe antidepressants??

Hi, I'm with talking therapies currently, and they can help to request anti depressants from your doctors, but they don't prescribe them. If you need help talking about your past, it's worth looking into therapy alongside or instead as they only discuss the past week or 2 x

For me a complete waste of time. Have used them several times and it’s just a 6 week block of sessions and it’s not for any longer term issues in my opinion. They just seem to give me coping mechanisms which don’t work for the anxiety and not have time to chat about how I ended up this way. I actually went to GP the other day who gave me meds which I was reluctant to take but also referred me to a longer type of therapy which will delve in to the past x

I'd advocate for the talking therapies, I did EMDR which does go into past issues but mine was for PTSD I'm not sure how generic they can use that service for. I was doing that for 8 months which bought my depression and anxiety scores to a sub clinical level along with reduction of the PTSD X

I’ve used talking therapies a couple of times, the first was CBT which didn’t really help much (although it was typed sessions). This time around I’ve done video calls, a mix of CBT and EMDR which has been more effective. Both therapies can address past issues as well as present and future. If you want antidepressants only the GP can prescribe those

but this therapy will be just you or like a group.
I had today a call with talking therapies and they offered me this 6 weeks therapy but I don’t think will help me much and as well if they not talk about past which I need to go true to feel and make sure that I am and will be a good mum but don’t feel comfortable to talk about with other people from Group listening, that’s why I am asking.
I will try this what they offered but as well I was thinking to go to gp.
