Spit up

Hello, I am a first time mom to a beautiful baby boy who is almost 5 months. He spits up a lot, every time he burps he spits up. Is that normal? Usually after he finishes eating he spits up. Sometimes it’s chunky sometimes it’s just liquid. My doctor doesn’t seem concerned because he is gaining weight but she did give him acid reflux medicine. For me it is very nerve wrecking I just want my baby to be ok. Has anyone else experienced this?

Are you bottle feeding? Whats your feed process?

Sometimes its just that they overate and tummy just cant hold it all.

yes he is bottle fed. I feed him sitting up and burp him. I try to burp him in the middle of his feeds but sometimes he doesn’t burp.

My babe was the same way. No matter how I burped how I fed how I positioned him he would spit up. Turns out it was just his normal 🤷🏻‍♀️ some babies spit up more than others. He’s 11 months now. Stopped around 6-7 months

If doctor isnt worried you prob shouldnt either. Our doctor said approx 2 teaspoons is normal for spit up. I totally get it tho. Sometimes how the milk is stored can harbour bacteria and causes spit ups.

Yes! This is totally normal. Baby’s digestive systems are immature and typically spitting up will peak 4-6 months then improve. Both of my girls were on Pepcid and my 6 month old was awful for a month with spitting up. Just make sure you use a slower flow nipple and take breaks while feeding. It is so frustrating and you will probably always be doing laundry like I am, but it will pass 😊

Same here! He will go through phases of not spitting up so much or even at all! Right now he’s in the spitting up phases lol. This morning he made an absolute mess of himself! I do find sometimes that if I wait a little bit for his belly to settle and then burp him, he then spits up a lot less! This morning we were in a little bit of a rush so I couldn’t wait as long 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ but like it was said, if doctor isn’t worried, don’t worry yourself either 😊

Did you change his bottle nipple size?

I use the mam bottles we use size 2. I wanted to bump his to size 3 since he will be 5 months and seems to suck really fast like it’s not coming out fast enough. But since he spits up so much I haven’t wanted to make that change yet.
