Induction/sweep - when to say no?

Hello!

I'm nearly 5 days overdue with zero symptoms. It's starting to look like my Feb baby will be a March baby.

I'm going to be talking to my midwife about sweeps/induction on Friday. If you have said no to induction (say you make it to 12 days after due date) what was the reasoning?

My husband just said wait it out and do neither sweep or induction as in some other countries they let you go on for ages and its just an NHS rule. I'm really not sure what decisions to make 🤔 .

To add, I have a healthy pregnancy with no issues to date.

I am under a consultant who wanted to book me in for an induction at 40 weeks. The only reason i am under their care is for a high bmi, but im a size 14/16 fairly active and have only put on 7kg since my booking appointment.

I said no because there is nothing wrong with me or baby, no diabetes etc.

42 weeks can be when things are a little more risky for baby

@Amy yeah I'll be neatly 42 weeks if I book to be induced but i have no reason at present!

To note I am open to a sweep if it prevents me needing an induction, there is significantly less risks involved in a sweep

@Amy question or no sweep and see if i come on naturally. I literally need to have sweep done on Friday at the appointment if so as they are busy otherwise.

You have to do what you feel is right for you.

Might be worth looking at the NICE guidance to help you

I’m the same lovely! I was due 22nd feb and not having any symptoms really, I don’t really want a sweep or induction unless something is wrong
My midwife told me you can decline sweeps/induction as long as you can be monitored instead

I was unfortunate enough to need an induction due to my waters breaking 3 weeks before my due date and labour not progressing after almost 48hours, the induction process is (in my opinion and experience) invasive and traumatic. I had a sensitive overreaction to the drip and had a contraction that was almost 5mins long - it was hell. I didn't want an induction (I had been offered one and refused and they suggested sweeps from 37weeksnwhich I also refused as it is a form of induction) it was important for me to go naturally but my body wouldn't comply 😢 not all inductions are bad but it's proven that it's not as good for you as going into natural labour. I would say if you don't have a medical reason for an induction then try to go naturally, even if that means waiting until your 2 weeks overdue, and the induction is then last resort xx

Hiya.

I’m 1day over due and went for a hospital appointment this morning. The consultant wanted me to be induced and I told them no. It’s in my plan that I don’t want to be induced. I’ve got a c section booked in for Friday incase I don’t go into labour naturally.
She made me sign a thing to say I’ve refused to be induced as I’m classed as a high risk pregnancy with my baby being on the smaller side. She wanted me to talk to another midwife so I’d change my mind. In the end my bf got argumentative with her as I’m only 1 day over due and they say it can be 2 weeks either side of the due date.

@Antonia I keep seeing stories like this. My midwife is saying nothing like, I am literally waiting 5 days to even get a sweep. It is rude for them to just book you like that but it's a difficult decision either way!
