Pregnancy doesn’t feel real

Hi so I just found out I’m pregnant on Sunday by using at home tests. I went to the GP on Monday but they didn’t test me there, they basically just gave me my scan, midwife & due dates. Is this normal? I felt I would have had a bit more reassurance if they had tested me there too.

My partner and I have been trying to conceive for 3 years and where just about to be referred for IVF so we are over the moon but I just don’t feel like it’s real yet and hard to take in. Is this normal?

This is my first pregnancy and I have PCOS so I am a bit nervous & scared although so excited. I am 6 weeks tomorrow, have been getting cramps and what feels like a muscle pain in my lower right side but no bleeding. Feel nauseous all the time but haven’t been sick. I don’t have my first midwife appointment until March 12th and scan April 13th and feel I won’t truly believe it until I see it on the scan.

Hi! Never dealt with a midwife but did they take your urine sample? Plus if they did the scan that also confirms it, no? Also cramping is normal. Unless it’s extremely painful and has really bad back pain with it. Sounds like you’re all good. Congratulations!

Im not pregnant but saw this post and wanted to comment but it is normal to not get tested at the gp or via midwife’s. I never and I’ve had 3 pregnancies. They just make appointments to assign you a midwife and then your scan date and that’s really it.

What you’re feeling is normal re: cramping, nausea etc. It can come and go and you might not even get any symptoms, or they might be there one day then gone the next. It doesn’t mean anything bad. When you get pregnant for the first time it is surreal untill you see it on the scan. You can also go privately for an early scan from 6wks+ but be mindful when you’re that early sometimes you don’t always see anything. I’ve had early scans (for medical reasons) for all my pregnancies as early as 6-7wks and you’ve seen a blob and heartbeat detected. So that may be soemthing to consider if you don’t want to wait till April. Even waiting till 7-8 weeks you’ll be able to see a bit more of a shape than a blob 🤣

Congratulations and all the best😄

No they didn’t take a urine sample they just basically took my word for it because I did tests at home. Also my scan isn’t until April. Think it just feels a bit surreal as it’s a shock after trying for so long. Thank you!! 💛

I’m the same at the moment (6+5)! I also have PCOS and was on the LOCI trial for mine, as part of the trial I have an early scan on Friday but I also had one last week as I had some worries! Outside of the scans I’ve been doing cheep at home tests every couple of days just for some extra reassurance until I’m discharged into seeing a midwife!

I’ve also got nausea pretty much all day everyday and get bouts of cramping allllll the time! X

Thank you Marion & Charlotte too, that feels more reassuring hearing that I’m not the only one 🤞🏻💞 so scary but will be worth it all 💛

If you’ve done a test and it was positive you’re definitely pregnant could also do a digital one for extra reassurance.

I didn’t have any interaction from my GP I did a self referral online with the hospital I wanted to attend for the care and birth and got sent a booking in appointment letter that was at 8 weeks and they gave me all the information ie scan dates, appointments and process going forward then.

I felt the same wouldn’t accept I was pregnant until 12 weeks just in case and I also had the exact same sounding pain symptoms. I think it was pain from my body adapting to pregnancy and expanding. I now have a 11 week old LO. So please try not to worry!

Take your pregnancy vitamins and try relax I know easier said then done!

I’ve had similar in some ways. I just turned 39 a couple of weeks ago and had just had a fertility MOT at the end of January that was not overly positive.. then I started feeling sick in early February so dis a test (positive) and then retested a week later and had stronger lines on the tests.. had very similar symptoms to your plus a few more. I went to my GP and they just gave me the number for the local maternity hospital who I have called several times and left my information on their answerphone service (as asked to do) but have yet to get a call back.. I’m hoping they get back to me soon as I would really just like to know I’m booked in!!

Thank you Daisy & Melissa. Definitely feel less worried now.

I’ve been told to take folic acid & vitamin D so got them today.

I hope they get back to you soon Melissa, so stressful!

Congratulations & all the best 💛

if you decide to go private there’s a clinic through Livingston way called window to the womb they do scans for all different reasons and very reasonable priced. They’ve got a website and may be one closer to Edinburgh but not been so cant recommend but defo the one way through Livingston way was good. 😄

If you’re worried or concerned for whatever reason always go to hosp or contact your gp/midwife even if it’s just for reassurance 😊

I was actually looking at this earlier. Think I may speak to my partner and book one just for a bit reassurance. Thanks for your help ☺️

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲

Rolling milestone at 5 months - What’s typical ?

Good morning ladies,

My daughter will be 5 months old tomorrow, but there’s still no sign of her rolling. She does tummy time and loves lying on her mat, playing with hanging toys above her and to the sides, but she only lifts her legs and doesn’t seem interested in rolling or moving sideways yet.

Anyone else the same or have your babies already learnt how to roll yet ?

Thank you
