What did you do to heal hemorrhoids? I'm really suffering for a long time now and the doctor only prescribed a stool softener. Any tips?

I got given a steroid cream to use for a week. After the week it was still painful so I used it for another and the pain stopped. I think it’s still there though and now I have a fissure which is even more painful!
