Toddler has horrible cold sore

My toddler has a really bad cold sore that shows up every now and then. She has it on one side of her lip and on her nose its horrible. I've never had cold sores so I didn't know that she had it. My husband never had one either but then I noticed that sometimes only his nose looks the same as our daughter's so she got it from him and he didn't know that he suffered from the herpes virus until it showed up like that on our daughter. I feel guilty since she has to live with it. I need someone to make me feel better. Hers flares up pretty bad so I got her cream.

its so sad I feel like crying. She's so tiny and the herpes virus is badly looked at. Hopefully her flares don't look as bad for when she grows up. Thank you for your comment.

How can you tell the difference between that and hand foot mouth?

hers were reoccuring so the doctors think its herpes but it gets mistaken alot I guess I won't really know until she gets older but I use cold sore cream anyways since it was perscribed. She flares up pretty bad on her nose and side of her mouth.

I wouldn't worry about the stigma. Chickenpox is also a form of the herpes virus.

And apparently 2/3 of the world's population have some version of the Herpes Simplex virus. Cold sores and genital herpes are also not the same strain of the virus. Yes, you, she, husband should be careful when there are outbreaks but it's not uncommon either.

its crazy because during her and my husbands outbreak they kissed the baby and I and both of us don't have any symptoms so we never thought that she suffered from the oral herpes simplex virus. The doc told me that some people are just immune to it and have alot of antibodies and I guess that the baby came out just like me lol

My mom gets cold sores, and I never have. I remember her being careful about them, but that wasn't until much later in my life.

Also, when I was reading about it last night, one of the articles was saying some people may carry the virus but only ever have one outbreak in their life... there is chance as she gets older and her body gets accustomed to it, she may not have outbreaks anymore, or only when she is already stressed or sick with something else. I hope this is the case for her!

Ultimately, yes it sucks, but it's not the worst ever.

Don't feel bad, if it runs in the family theirs nothing u can do to stop it. Our daughter gets them now. Her 1st one started at age 6. She's now 8. She got it from her aunt on her dad's side. It's ok, just treat it the best u can. U didn't do anything wrong.
