NHS pressure

Anyone up against pressure to induce?

Sorry if you’re seeing this twice - I’ve also posted it on the Feb 2024 group for anyone who is part of that.

I’ve been booked for a post due date scan and a ‘chat’ with a consultant as I am refusing an induction (baby is fine, heartbeat healthy, low risk pregnancy, FTM). Unsure whether I want to attend either.

I would go into those meetings and get them to talk through BRAIN for what they are asking for, then go from there. X

I’m due on the 06/03 and my midwife offered me induction on 05/03 😳 I literally looked at her and said hell no

it’s wild how the flow of the conversation went ‘okay hi, we’ll now book you in for an induction, it’s standard procedure when you reach 41+3’. A whole of lot discussion later and it was accepted there is literally zero reason for me to be induced. Then came the additional scan and consultant ‘chat’. Unsure if I’ll go, though hoping I go into labour naturally to avoid the pressure of the staff

Honestly, I’m not rushing baby. I know loads of mums would go for me now but I don’t harvest colostrum as it will come naturally, I don’t drink raspberry tea and eat dates. I tried to be healthy and active throughout my pregnancy so when my baby is ready I’m sure he will be absolutely fine and I will go through any pain for him 🥺x

totally agree. So bad how they're inducing people for simply being past due date. Due date is a loosely.based estimate and 99% of babies are born by 42 weeks. Give them a chance! I refused a sweep at 40+2 not consider.anything till I'm.42 weeks

Im low risk and went to see midwife yesterday at 40+2. Baby wasn’t low enough for sweep. So has booked me in next Thursday for potential sweep and then Saturday for induction (41+5). I said I’ll see how I go next week whether I want to go through with induction as I’m not keen. She said well it has to happen. We have to get him out. Like there was no other choice…

So think will fight that battle next week if no further progress..

Good luck guys!

You go mama 🙌🏻 baby doesn’t come when told to and research shows that doomsday doesn’t come when you are overdue. Sending all the positive vibes x

That sounds like a really supportive team you have 🫶🏼🥹 absolutely go with what you feel is best at the time! Ngl mine has been served her eviction notice, though she isn’t paying much attention to this haha

totally agree 🫶🏼

You can go to the scan and appointment and say no, you domt want to be induced until its a medical necessity

I think it’s worth going for the chat. You don’t have to be induced if you don’t want to. It’s important to bear in mind the lifespan of your placenta though and that statistically the larger and later baby gets the more likely you will have to have an emergency section to get them out safely. They can give you all the info and then it’s your decision!

We had a scan yesterday and then an appt with a doctor (we weren’t even told about until at the scan) where they said as baby is 95th centile we’ll look to induce you next week. This stressed me massively as unexpected and no other medical concerns. I think I’m going to cancel the induction when they ring with the appt and push for elective c section so it’s not as stressful

I would definitely still go and see what they say, but ultimately it’s your body, your birth and your decision. I feel I may be in a similar situation, due 1st March and no sign of baby appearing anytime soon. Midwife offered to book me for a sweep next week which I have declined, and advised they would “let” me go to 40+10, but I will likely decline induction too and opt for increased monitoring instead. If you do go would be great to hear how it goes x

I think I’m the same ! Just feels hard because it’s like there’s so much support then you reach their deadline and it takes a lot of confidence to know I’m doing the right thing! Will let everyone know if I do go ☺️

Have a look at the NICE guidelines on induction if you want more info/to know your rights

https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng207/chapter/Recommendations#information-and-decision-making

1.1.5
When offering induction of labour:
• give women time to discuss this information with others (for example, their partners, birthing companion or family) if they wish to do so before making a decision
• encourage women to look at other information (for example, by providing written information leaflets or encouraging them to look at information on the NHS website)
• ensure women have the opportunity to ask questions, and time to think about their options
• recognise that women can decide to proceed with, delay, decline or stop an induction. Respect the woman's decision, even if healthcare professionals disagree with it, and do not allow personal views to influence the care they are given.
